Job description

TYPE OF POSITION:

Hourly; year round 

Hours may vary based on program needs

REPORTS TO:

Director of Building and Grounds, Head/Asst Engineers, Building Principals

SUPERVISION:

Temporary summer support staff, snow removal support staff

SALARY:

$18.44/hr (starting salary for new hires)

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required
    High school diploma or equivalent

Preferred
    Two years job related experience
    Bilingual

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Groundskeeper is a contact point for students, teachers, support staff, colleagues and parents. The Groundskeeper is responsible for the day to day operation of the grounds area assigned to them, security, safety, and other functions as assigned.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

Customer Support
    Assist in the implementation and follow through of snow removal, grass cutting, athletic field marking, asphalt repairs, asphalt striping, and maintaining of equipment
    Assist building administrators and other support staff in scheduling athletic events, setting up for these events, and other special tasks as assigned by building administrator
    Collaborate with teachers and support personnel for the purpose of assisting in the mission of the school district
    Assist in the implementation and follow through on projects assigned in buildings during slow work days and rain days
    Supervise Custodial staff and interact with district resources (carpenters, grounds personnel) to take care of building exterior and grounds
    Supervise Temporary summer support staff and snow removal support staff





Direct Service
    Perform daily cleaning (trash), mowing, raking leaves, removing snow and ice around buildings and at athletic facilities including playgrounds
    Performs small landscaping projects as assigned
    Performs maintenance/repair of equipment under their care
    Operate and repair underground irrigation systems
    Deliver gas to other buildings
    Performs licensed herbicide and pesticide applications
    Coordinate outside contractors regarding building envelope work, asphalt work and all exterior work at buildings assigned
    Takes care of ordering and installing signs as needed
    Installs and repairs exterior fencing
    Perform small welding repairs as needed









Administrative Support
    Maintains records for inventory, gas usage, snow removal contacts, and corrective/preventive maintenance records of equipment
    Maintains accurate records of exterior lighting lamps, underground irrigation line/head locations
    Other duties as assigned


WORKING ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The methods of performing the essential job duties require the following physical demands:

    Continuous standing and walking
    Frequent stooping, squatting, kneeling, crawling, sitting, walking, standing, hearing, talking, and seeing
    Frequent lifting and/or moving of equipment, supplies and furniture
    Occasionally lifting up to 50 pounds
    Frequent pushing and pulling
    Work with various chemicals and follow Material Safety Data Sheet
    Work with personal protective equipment in dealing with body fluids
    Working outside during inclement weather
