We seek a talented Director or Senior Director to lead our biochemistry unit within a dynamic and interdisciplinary group of scientists working to develop new therapeutics for unmet medical needs. Key responsibilities will include executing biochemistry strategy and enzyme studies along with management of external and internal resources. Experience with biophysical assays, structure biology and high throughput screens will be highly desirable.
Responsibilities
  • Lead a team of scientists in the design, development, validation, and implementation of biochemical assays for small molecule screens
  • Develop and direct collaborations with external CROs performing assay development and transfer, library screening, and hit validation across projects
  • Develop expert knowledge of biochemical mechanisms of program targets and serve on cross-functional project teams as the biochemistry expert
  • Stay current with new technologies and relevant scientific advances in biochemical techniques and assay formats from literature, scientific meetings, and professional network
  • Review and ensure the quality of scientific data to meet regulatory expectations and author technical and regulatory documents to support advancement of therapeutics to clinical testing
  • Communicates (both in writing and verbally) project status, issues, schedule and accomplishments to various management and stakeholder groups in an effective manner, as needed
  • Critically evaluates project data while rigorously driving data-driven Go/No-go decisions, including the identification of resource constraints and bottlenecks
  • Promote a group culture of agility, pro-action, collaboration, and innovation

Required Skills
  • Ph.D. in a related scientific field
  • 10+ years of drug discovery experience, including at least 5 years of experience managing a team of scientists
  • Strong skills and proven track record in the areas of enzymology, enzyme kinetics and current assay formats for several enzyme classes and protein-protein-interaction targets
  • Hands-on experience with high throughput screening and hit validation techniques
  • Demonstration of highly successful project execution across disease areas using in-house and/or CRO resources leading to preclinical candidates for further clinical development
  • Impeccable attention to detail, and excellent ability to perform hands on experiments, research/design/organize projects and maintain detailed documentation
  • Able to provide leadership on a cross-functional team
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks
  • Possess effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Strong understanding of the drug discovery process and demonstrated leadership on cross-functional teams
