Job description

JourneyTeam's Data & AI practice is growing, and we're looking for a hungry, humble, and smart Business Intelligence Developer to join our world-class team. This is a great opportunity for someone with a strong BI foundation who is ready to take the next step-not entry level, but also not so senior that they're done growing. In this role, you'll build modern Microsoft analytics solutions with Power BI and Microsoft Fabric, work directly with clients, and continue developing into a well-rounded consultant. If you're passionate about turning data into insight and want to be part of a collaborative, values-driven team, we'd love to hear from you.

About JourneyTeam

At JourneyTeam, people are at the center of everything we do. Our purpose as a company is to help others effectively use technology to create a positive, lasting impact on the world. With 30 years of technology experience, we are 100% focused on delivering Microsoft business applications and technologies that empower organizations to reach new heights of business success. We deeply understand the transformative value of Microsoft solutions and are dedicated to helping our customers unlock their full potential. Our experienced team specializes in driving success across Dynamics 365, Microsoft 365, AI and Copilot, Azure, and modern data solutions-all leveraging Microsoft's comprehensive security platform.

What truly sets us apart is how we show up every day-for our customers and for each other. We believe that great outcomes come from great people who are aligned in how they work, collaborate, and take ownership. We succeed by consistently demonstrating our core values:

  • A Caring Mindset
  • Exceptional Performance
  • Being OneTeam
  • Making & Keeping Commitments
  • Taking Ownership
  • Effective Communication
  • A Growth Mindset
The Opportunity

Our BI Developers turn data platforms into decisions. Working alongside our data engineers and architects, you will design and build the semantic models, reports, and dashboards our clients rely on every day. Critical aspects of this role include discovering business requirements, translating them into intuitive analytics experiences, and delivering polished, performant Power BI solutions on Microsoft Fabric. Senior-level candidates will also lead the analytics workstream on client engagements and mentor other developers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design, build, and deploy Power BI reports, dashboards, and apps that tell a clear story and drive business decisions.
  • Develop robust semantic models-including Direct Lake models on Microsoft Fabric-with well-structured DAX measures, calculation groups, and row-level security.
  • Work directly with clients to gather reporting requirements, define KPIs, and translate business questions into effective analytics solutions.
  • Shape and transform data using Power Query (M), SQL, and Fabric tools, partnering with data engineers on lakehouse and warehouse-side modeling.
  • Apply data visualization and UX best practices to create intuitive, accessible, and performant report experiences.
  • Leverage AI-assisted analytics-including Copilot for Power BI and natural language Q&A-to help clients get more value from their data.
  • Optimize model and report performance (DAX tuning, aggregations, incremental refresh, capacity considerations).
  • Manage workspace governance, deployment pipelines, report security and distribution mechanisms, and content lifecycle across development, test, and production environments.
  • Participate in client meetings, design sessions, and demos to support solution delivery.
  • At the Senior level, use consulting expertise to guide customers, align solutions to business goals, and drive project outcomes that create lasting customer value.
  • Contribute to internal standards, templates, reusable assets, and documentation.
  • Stay current with Microsoft's evolving Fabric and Power BI platform and bring forward ideas for continuous improvement.
Qualifications
  • 2-5+ years of hands-on Business Intelligence development experience, preferably within the Microsoft ecosystem. (2-3 years aligns to the BI Developer level; 5+ years with demonstrated client and technical leadership aligns to the Senior level.)
  • Strong alignment with the JourneyTeam values described above, with a demonstrated ability to bring humility, drive, collaboration, and sound judgment into client work and team interactions.
  • Expert-level Power BI skills: report and dashboard development, semantic modeling, DAX, and Power Query (M).
  • Experience with Microsoft Fabric, including Direct Lake semantic models, OneLake, and lakehouse/warehouse sources.
  • Strong SQL skills and a solid understanding of dimensional modeling (e.g., star schemas) and how model design impacts report performance.
  • Familiarity with AI-assisted analytics capabilities such as Copilot for Power BI.
  • Understanding of Power BI governance: workspaces, deployment pipelines, row-level security, and sharing/distribution strategies.
  • Strong data storytelling and visualization skills, with attention to usability and design.
  • Ability to work independently on assigned tasks and contribute to client-facing projects with support from senior team members; Senior candidates should demonstrate the ability to lead the analytics workstream and mentor others.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and a collaborative mindset.
Certification Requirements

Applicants for this role must have the following certifications or a plan to attain them quickly after employment:

  • Certification: PL-300 Microsoft Power BI Data Analyst Associate
  • Certification: DP-600 Microsoft Fabric Analytics Engineer Associate
Preferred Skills (not required):
  • Experience with external tools such as Tabular Editor, DAX Studio, and ALM Toolkit.
  • Experience with paginated reports and/or Power BI Embedded scenarios.
  • Hands-on experience with other Fabric workloads (Data Factory, notebooks, warehouses) or Azure data services (Synapse, Databricks, Azure SQL Database).
  • Experience with Microsoft Purview or other data governance and cataloging tools.
  • Experience with project delivery methodologies (Agile/Scrum, Kanban, Waterfall, hybrid).
  • Knowledge of change management practices to support data and AI adoption.
  • Experience with Dynamics 365 (Project Service Automation or Project Operations).
  • Experience with Azure DevOps.
Compensation:

The base salary range for this role is $80,000 - $150,000 + performance-based bonus program. Eligibility and payout are tied to individual contributions, team performance, and company success.

This is the established pay range for the BI Developer and Senior BI Developer roles at JourneyTeam on the Data & AI Solutions Practice. Where you fall within this range-and the level at which you are hired-will depend on your experience, technical skillset, and demonstrated consulting ability.

Benefits:
