Job Summary

Work Environment - Onsite in Wilmington DE, Washington DC or Philadelphia PA

The Director of Network Services is responsible for providing leadership in producing detailed network engineering designs and overseeing their implementations to ensure technology investments are meeting the business requirements. Network Solutions partners with multiple business teams and their peer DT teams to produce detailed engineering designs and implementation. Organizationally, the business, architecture and operations teams report to different leaders. Therefore, relationship management and operating within a matrix management organization is a key skill. As an IT leader, this role will utilize education, influence, and governance processes to maximize return on technology investment, and to reduce time to capability, while minimizing operational costs.

Essential Functions
  • Lead and mentor a team of network engineers, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and excellence in building network solutions.
  • Oversee the design, development, and implementation of network solutions to meet the business requirements and schedule.
  • Develop standardized solutions that are well-documented and easily supported.
  • Support executive leadership by providing strategic advice on network centric solutions, implementing modern practices, and ensuring alignment with the organization's mission, strategy, and objectives.
  • Manage organizational culture change and build high performance technology teams.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent combination of education, training and/or relevant experience. 
  • Plus 11 years of relevant work experience.
  • Expertise with switching and routing protocols like VxLAN, BGP, etc. and networking equipment from Cisco Systems, Arista Networks etc.
  • Experience with "infrastructure as code" and Ansible
  • Must have experience as a senior level engineer providing vision and selecting platforms to move organizations forward, building scalable solutions which enable future business initiatives.
  • Requires leadership experience in managing engineering teams, influencing executive level management, and key stakeholders.
  • Requires demonstrated ability to manage a portfolio of engineering engagements, effectively planning and leveraging team resources to ensure service delivery on time and within budget.
  • Experience with Agile process for business value realization
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent combination of education, training and/or relevant experience. 
  • Plus 13 years of relevant work experience.
  • Experience with Ansible, Terraform or other Infrastructure as Code tools.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of IT, OT, domain and business architecture
  • Experience with network transformation in areas such as process improvement, network management or operations
  • Relationship building and collaboration skills across diverse and matrixed stakeholders and customers.
  • Proven experience in managing diverse teams of employees and contractors
  • Leadership experience in managing cross-functional teams and influencing executive level management and key stakeholders

The salary/hourly range is $179,300.00 - $232,416.00. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc. Depending on an employee's assigned worksite or location, Amtrak may consider a geo-pay differential to be applied to the employee's base salary. Amtrak may offer additional incentive and pay programs to recognize and reward our employees, including a short-term incentive bonus based upon factors such as individual and company performance that is commensurate with the level of the position.
