What is a direct to consumer job?

A Direct To Consumer (DTC) job involves working for a company that sells products or services directly to customers, bypassing traditional retail channels or intermediaries. Professionals in DTC roles focus on building brand relationships, managing online sales channels, optimizing customer experiences, and using data-driven strategies to attract and retain customers. These roles can span marketing, e-commerce, customer support, logistics, and more, all with the goal of delivering a seamless and personalized experience from brand to buyer.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a direct to consumer manager?

To thrive as a Direct to Consumer (DTC) Manager, you need a solid background in e-commerce strategy, digital marketing, and analytics, often supported by a degree in marketing, business, or a related field. Familiarity with e-commerce platforms (such as Shopify or Magento), CRM systems, and digital advertising tools like Google Analytics and Facebook Ads Manager is essential. Strong communication, data-driven decision-making, and problem-solving abilities help you stand out in this role. These skills ensure successful customer acquisition, retention, and revenue growth in a rapidly evolving digital marketplace.

What are some common challenges faced by professionals in direct to consumer roles, and how can they be addressed?

Professionals in Direct To Consumer roles often encounter challenges such as rapidly shifting consumer preferences, the need for robust digital marketing strategies, and maintaining seamless customer experiences across online platforms. Staying agile and leveraging data analytics to understand customer behavior are key to addressing these challenges. Additionally, close collaboration with marketing, operations, and customer service teams helps ensure consistent messaging and efficient fulfillment, which are crucial for DTC success.

Job description

SUPPLY PLANNER — ACTA

Reports to: Director of Supply & Sourcing — Ally Montoya

ABOUT THE ROLE

ACTA is HydroJug's performance apparel brand, and this role is the supply planning engine behind it. As Supply Planner for Acta, you own the end-to-end supply plan for a 200–250 SKU apparel portfolio — translating size × color × season demand signals into production purchase orders, managing factory production schedules, and tracking sample milestones with overseas manufacturers in Vietnam, Bangladesh, and Honduras.

You will work within a tight supply/demand/inventory triangle alongside Catherine Iverson (Sourcing Analyst, ACTA) and Ivana Majstorovic (Demand Planner, ACTA). This is a collaborative lane — you do not work in a silo — but your ownership is clear: supply plan, production PO timing, and factory scheduling.

You will report to the Director of Supply & Sourcing (Ally Montoya) and work closely with the ACTA Brand Operations Manager (Kenzie Tibbitts).

This is a P1 hire.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • ACTA supply plan + production PO timing — own the apparel production calendar across all active SKUs; translate demand forecasts into factory purchase orders with correct size run ratios, color allocations, and seasonal timing
  • Factory scheduling + sample milestone tracking — manage production schedules with ACTA's overseas factory base (Vietnam, Bangladesh, Honduras); track fit sample, pre-production sample, and TOP/SMS milestones to keep production on track
  • Apparel supply-plan discipline — manage the unique complexity of apparel supply: size curve management, color minimums, seasonal carryover vs. close-out decisions, in-transit visibility
  • Partnership with Catherine Iverson and Ivana Majstorovic — collaborate daily with the Sourcing Analyst (factory relationships, compliance, costing) and Demand Planner (forecast inputs) to keep the supply/demand/inventory triangle in balance
  • Inventory positioning — work with Inventory and Warehouse teams to ensure inbound flow is sequenced and receipts are planned correctly across the ACTA assortment

SUCCESS CRITERIA

30 Days

  • Onboarded to HydroJug systems (ERP, demand planning tools, factory portals)
  • Fully mapped the ACTA SKU portfolio by factory, season, and production status
  • Built working relationship with Catherine Iverson, Ivana Majstorovic, Kenzie Tibbitts, and Ally Montoya
  • Reviewed current open production calendar and identified any milestone risks

90 Days

  • Supply plan is live and owned — production POs placed, factory schedules confirmed, sample milestones tracked
  • Weekly supply/demand reconciliation cadence running with Ivana and Catherine
  • Inbound receipt plan built and shared with Warehouse; no surprise receipts
  • At least one full seasonal production cycle in active management

180 Days

  • ACTA supply plan operating with consistent OTIF on factory deliveries; supplier scorecard data flowing
  • Size curve accuracy improving based on sell-through feedback from Demand Planner
  • Factory relationships stable; milestone tracking process documented and repeatable
  • Ally Montoya is not in the day-to-day — you own it

QUALIFICATIONS

Experience and background

  • 2–5 years of supply planning experience in apparel — you have personally managed a size × color × season SKU portfolio and issued production POs to overseas factories
  • Direct experience with overseas apparel manufacturing (Vietnam, Bangladesh, or similar); you know how to manage factories across time zones and long lead times
  • Familiarity with sample milestone tracking (FIT, PPS, TOP/SMS) — you know what each milestone means and why missing it matters
  • Strong Excel or Google Sheets skills; ERP experience (NetSuite, SAP, or similar)
  • Ability to work in a collaborative triangle with a demand planner and sourcing analyst — not a solo operator

Traits that fit

  • You are detail-oriented at the SKU level — a 200+ SKU apparel portfolio does not intimidate you
  • You communicate proactively with factories and internal partners; you do not discover problems when inventory does not show up
  • You can hold factories accountable without burning the relationship
  • You thrive when there is a team around you but you do not need hand-holding on the core supply planning function
