Job description

Packaging (Paper Systems) Operator

American Wood Fibers (AWF) is a manufacturer of both consumer and industrial products that are sold to multiple manufacturers as well as pet, agricultural, and home-heating markets. AWF is comprised of 450+ employees and holds operations at 11 locations, generating over $100M in annual sales revenue. We are currently seeking a candidate for the 3rd Shift Packaging (Paper Systems) Operator role in our Lebanon, KY facility.

Job Summary

The Paper System Operator assures product quality and product specifications are satisfied, work in an efficient manner to maximize production and shipping of products and raw material, while following all safety guidelines.

Essential Responsibilities

Primary duties include, but not limited to the following:

General

  • Start up and shut down all process systems as required
  • Monitor paper production system and adjust operator controls for optimal production throughout shift
  • Perform throughput tests as required by quality standards and procedures
  • Complete all required in-process quality tests (volumetric test, B.D., moisture, and PPH, etc.) and input all data by the end of the shift
  • Understand and apply any and all shipping requirements
  • Clean entire production area as required by the cleaning schedule
  • Perform regularly scheduled blow-down and cleaning of the systems, buildings, and labs as assigned and perform other clean-up duties as assigned by the supervisor
  • Monitor system and feeder boxes, refilling when necessary
  • Must track and report accurate production and inventory numbers to Supervisor
  • Complete system changeovers using operating condition sheets and set up sheets in accordance to the production schedule
  • Complete shift reports, or portions thereof as directed by the supervisor as needed
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the shift supervisor
  • Inspects process, performs cleaning, repair as required to maintain optimum performance and product quality
  • Attend all shift changeover meetings and training sessions as scheduled and required
  • Follow system set up to ensure proper quality
  • Recommend new ideas to improve performance, yields, and throughputs

Maintenance

  • Perform operator maintenance, adjust equipment as required, and assist maintenance technicians with repairs as needed
  • Report all maintenance issues and leaks in a timely manner and enter orders in the CMMS as needed
  • Keep Operating Condition Sheets up to date with accurate information on their shift's runtime, issues, and downtime

Safety

  • Follow all required safety programs and procedures including but not limited to; Fire Safety, Electrical Safety, LOTO, Respirator, and PPE
  • Must understand and abide by the JSA's for this role
  • Wear proper PPE at all times
  • Monitor fire prevention systems to ensure they are functioning properly at all times -- all issues must be reported immediately and affected systems must be shut down until issues have been resolved
  • Maintain facial hair to acceptable levels to ensure proper respirator seal as required and to comply with company respirator policy
  • Wear double hearing protection at all times in the wood floor systems
  • Must understand that if any time a requirement to lift something heavy, they should ask for help
  • Must complete forklift training and abide by all safety practices
  • Exercise caution in the production area due to mobile equipment moving the finished product out of the production area
  • Attend monthly safety meetings
  • Attend safety trainings as needed and complete required testing with sufficient results

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Physical capability to bend, squat, or stoop
  • Previous mobile equipment and/or forklift preferred

Physical Qualifications

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Work in varying temperatures within the production area (can range from 55-100 degrees, depending on the time of year)
  • Be able to climb stairs and/or ladder to the stacking station areas
  • Ability to wear personal protective gear correctly

Experience

Industrial Machine Operating: 1 Year (Preferred)
