The Opportunity:
This Data Entry Technician position is a great opportunity for someone to start in the litigation field supporting the Department of Justice on large and complex technical litigation support matters. This position introduces candidates to electronic data processing and eDiscovery best practices. You will gain experience by performing data entry and verification in various applications like Relativity Processing, NUIX, and using copying and encryption software. On-the-job training will be provided, making this position ideal for up-and-coming professionals looking to develop and improve their technical skills.

Responsibilities:
As a Data Entry/Docketing Technician Contractor, you will provide data entry/docketing assistance to include, but not limited to the following:
  • Initiate and input all new criminal cases, civil cases, declinations, and Rule 5 cases into the database and prepare individual case files.
  • Notify proper USAO employees of case openings.
  • Prepare and distribute a weekly report of court appearances.
  • Docket, maintain, update, and calendar all hearings and notices from Court Electronic Case Files (ECF) into both the database and Microsoft Outlook.
  • Print and place all court documents (e.g., Complaints, Judgments, Information, Plea Agreements, Indictments) into the proper case file and input information into the database.
  • Compile bi-annual case reports for certification.
  • Receive and distribute applicable sealed documents and post-disposition hearings.
  • Check ECF folders for information requiring action and notify proper USAO employees.
  • Serve as the District's Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) point of contact.
  • Receive, obtain, monitor, maintain, update, and notify proper USAO employees of all FOIA requests or FOIA lawsuits.
  • Take appropriate steps, including notifying all persons who have responsive records, to hold and preserve the responsive records pending resolution of the FOIA request or lawsuit.
  • Send written acknowledgment of FOIA to requester and forward a copy of the request and acknowledgment to headquarters FOIA staff.
  • Monitor FOIA database to learn of new requests and assigned tasks.
  • Gather information responsive to FOIA requests, track, and upload information into the FOIA database.
  • Track time spent by incumbent and others on all FOIA requests.
  • Prepare required reports regarding FOIA requests as needed.
  • Provide and maintain annual FOIA training to USAO staff.
  • Review data and reports to identify errors.
  • Ensure proper format, spelling, punctuation, capitalization, and grammar.
  • Make required corrections requested by authorized USAO employees.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
Required:
  • This is an entry-level position.
  • One to two (1-2) years of general data entry experience, including experience operating an alphanumeric keyboard.
  • Must have a high school diploma or GED certificate.
  • Must have experience operating a variety of office automation equipment and personal computers.
  • Must have the ability to work independently and be detail oriented.

Desired:
  • At least one year of legal experience is preferred.
  • Familiarity with the capabilities, operating characteristics, and functions of a variety of office automation software (e.g., word processing software, docketing automation systems, electronic mail, and litigation support software) and knowledge of the similarities, differences, and integration of the different software types.
  • Familiarity with a variety of computer applications, specifically Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Familiarity with computerized and record-keeping systems and procedures.
  • Knowledge of litigation processes and court proceedings to recognize case status and to analyze case files and other source documents to identify errors in either input documents or automated records.
  • Knowledge of legal terminology to understand complex legal terms and phrases, document formats, and litigative procedures to effectively communicate with legal staff and to determine what information should be entered into automated records.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and analytical abilities.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust Security Access.
  • Ability to work in a deadline-driven, fast-paced environment.

Pay Range:
This posting is for a position covered by the Service Contract Labor Standards (SCA). The pay and benefits provided for this position will meet or exceed the minimum required amounts detailed in the wage determination issued by the Department of Labor and made applicable to this position, as incorporated into CACI's government contract for the work location.
Minimum Required Hourly Wage:
$17.25
