Can you make 10k a month as a virtual assistant?

A virtual assistant can potentially earn $10,000 a month by securing high-paying clients, specializing in niche services, and working full-time hours. Achieving this income level typically requires advanced skills, experience, and efficient time management, often involving multiple clients or premium services. However, most virtual assistants earn less, and reaching $10,000 monthly is considered above average for the industry.

How does a Direct Client Virtual Assistant typically manage communication and collaboration with clients who work in different time zones?

As a Direct Client Virtual Assistant, managing communication across time zones is a common challenge. Most VAs use shared digital tools like project management platforms, cloud-based calendars, and messaging apps to stay organized and responsive. It's standard practice to establish overlapping 'core hours' for real-time communication and clarify expectations regarding response times. Regular check-ins and clear documentation help ensure tasks are completed smoothly, regardless of time differences. This approach fosters trust and reliable collaboration, even when working remotely for clients around the world.

What are Direct Client Virtual Assistants?

Direct Client Virtual Assistants are professionals who provide administrative, technical, or creative support to clients remotely, usually working directly for the client rather than through an agency. Their tasks may include scheduling, email management, research, data entry, and more, depending on the client’s needs. Working directly with clients allows Virtual Assistants to build stronger relationships and tailor their services to specific requirements. This role often requires excellent communication, organizational skills, and proficiency with digital tools.

What is the hourly rate for a VA?

The hourly rate for a virtual assistant varies depending on experience, skills, and the complexity of tasks, but typically ranges from $10 to $30 per hour. More experienced VAs or those with specialized skills may charge higher rates, often up to $50 or more per hour.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Direct Client Virtual Assistant, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Direct Client Virtual Assistant, you need strong organizational abilities, excellent written and verbal communication, and proficiency in administrative tasks, often supported by experience or a relevant certification. Familiarity with tools like Google Workspace, Microsoft Office, project management platforms (e.g., Asana, Trello), and communication systems such as Slack or Zoom is typically required. Outstanding time management, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills help you stand out in supporting clients remotely. These skills ensure tasks are completed efficiently, client needs are met proactively, and professional relationships are maintained, which is vital for client satisfaction and long-term success.

Job description

A career as an Associate at National Bank is a role where your systems thinking, attention to detail, and interest in finance can have a direct impact on clients and advisors. In this role, you will help a wealth management team execute client instructions, maintain accurate information, navigate internal processes, and keep operational work moving from start to finish.

This position may be a strong fit for someone with a technology, data, operations, or process-improvement background who is interested in building a long-term career in financial services. Prior wealth-management experience is helpful, but the most important qualities are willingness to learn new topics and technology, strong judgment, focus on accuracy and accountability, and comfort working with multiple internal systems.

Your job:

  • Support wealth advisors in providing superior client service by helping ensure client requests, instructions, documents, and follow-up items are handled accurately and on time.
  • Carry out deposit, withdrawal, transfer, currency conversion, and other account instructions for investment accounts, with careful review, tracking, and confirmation through to completion.
  • Prepare, complete, and process account documentation and service requests using internal systems and workflow tools.
  • Monitor submitted transactions, forms, and requests; identify items that are delayed, rejected, incomplete, or unclear; and work with internal partners to resolve them.
  • Learn and navigate internal systems and processes, including documentation platforms, workflow tools, ticketing systems, reporting systems, and client record systems.
  • Use Excel and other tools to organize information, combine and compare data from multiple sources, identify inconsistencies, and prepare preliminary data for financial planning and portfolio reporting.
  • Run reports, retrieve statements and tax slips, package client documents securely, and support preparation of client meeting materials.
  • Maintain accurate client information and operational data points, including contact information, beneficiary details, banking instructions, and other key records.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement by identifying recurring process issues, improving checklists, and helping the team make better use of technology.

Your team:

National Bank Financial - Wealth Management is the fifth largest investment brokerage firm in Canada. We have close to 1,000 investment advisors who manage the assets of more than 400,000 clients in about 100 branches. Reporting to the regional manager, you will team up with a wealth advisor to offer an exceptional client experience. Collaboration and partnership will be key to your success.

We want to contribute to your quality of life by offering you as much flexibility as possible in your work. For example, we offer a hybrid (remote and in the office) work model, work schedule arrangements to help you achieve work/life balance, and flexible leave that you can take when it's important to you.

Prerequisites:

  • Completed college and/or university diploma in a related field such as business, finance, accounting, management information systems, computer science, operations, administration, or another field requiring strong analytical, technological, and organizational skills.
  • Relevant experience in technology operations, data analysis, process coordination, financial services, banking operations, insurance, or another role requiring accuracy and follow-through is an asset.
  • Completion of the Canadian Securities Course (CSC) and/or Conduct and Practices Handbook Course, or willingness to complete required industry courses if applicable to the role.
  • Strong digital literacy and comfort learning new systems, workflow tools, and internal platforms.
  • Strong Excel skills and comfort working with data from multiple sources.
  • Excellent attention to detail and a careful approach to high-risk tasks, especially financial transactions and client documentation.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, including the ability to investigate unclear issues and determine the next appropriate step.
  • Clear, accurate, and professional communication skills for client service and internal follow-up.
  • Collaborative mindset, high work ethic, and willingness to ask questions when something is uncertain.
