Position Summary:
The Dining Server is responsible for delivering an exceptional dining experience for residents and guests by providing courteous and efficient table service, maintaining high standards of cleanliness and food safety, and ensuring dining areas are welcoming and sanitary. This role supports daily meal service as well as special events, assists with food preparation and cost control, and collaborates with team members to uphold Cedarhurst's dining standards. The Dining Server also communicates effectively with residents and families, responds to individual dining needs, and contributes to a safe and positive environment that reflects the company's commitment to quality service and resident wellbeing.
Essential Functions:
  • Assist with catering, room service, special events, and marketing functions, ensuring smooth execution and resident satisfaction.
  • Promptly take food and beverage orders and deliver service to residents and guests in a courteous, accurate, and efficient manner.
  • Maintain a clean and sanitary work area by washing pots, pans, and utensils used in meal preparation, following all food safety standards.
  • Clear, sanitize, and reset tables; dispose of trash and clean containers; and complete daily checklists to ensure kitchen and dining areas are consistently maintained.
  • Assist with cleaning dining areas, including floors, tables, and chairs after meals and events, and ensure sweeping, vacuuming, and mopping are completed at the end of each shift.
  • Maintain knowledge of assigned responsibilities and adapt service to meet individual resident dining preferences and needs.
  • Support cost-control efforts by minimizing waste and using supplies responsibly.
  • Accurately follow recipes and ingredient labels to ensure proper preparation and consistency of food and beverages.
  • Safely operate, maintain, and clean kitchen equipment and utensils in accordance with safety guidelines.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of dining menus and effectively communicate menu details to residents and guests.
  • Prepare and maintain table settings to meet Cedarhurst's established dining standards and create a welcoming atmosphere.
  • Maintain current knowledge of food safety regulations (FDA, state, county, local) and ensure full adherence to all food handling and sanitation guidelines.
  • Follow Cedarhurst infection control guidelines and uphold safety standards to protect residents, guests, and staff.
  • Apply basic math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions) to accurately perform dining-related tasks.
  • Communicate effectively with residents, families, and staff to support positive relationships and ensure residents' physical, personal, and emotional wellbeing.
  • Collaborate with team members, follow management direction, and demonstrate initiative in resolving conflicts and promoting a respectful, supportive dining environment.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Up to two years of prior experience preferred, with senior living experience strongly desired.
  • Relevant state or county licensure preferred, with the ability to obtain licensure if required by the state in which employed.
  • CPR or BLS certification preferred.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in common digital tools and applications, including Microsoft Office programs (Outlook, Excel, Word), web-based platforms, electronic health record systems, and any HR-related systems as applicable.

Working Conditions:
  • This position may need to walk or stand for extended periods and move throughout the community, resident apartments, and other areas of the community.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally be required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, as well as climb or balance.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to communicate effectively and identify/interpret written information.
  • This position may need to lift up to fifty (50) pounds independently, and up to 200 pounds with assistance.
  • Individuals in this position are required to follow all infection prevention and control protocols, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) when necessary, to ensure the health and safety of residents, staff, and visitors.
  • This role involves actively participating in all staff activities aimed at fostering teamwork, unity, and morale. The individual will contribute as a collaborative team player, working alongside colleagues to create a supportive and cohesive work environment.
  • Individuals in this position are required to stay current on all training and ongoing education initiatives. They are expected to actively pursue self-improvement and embrace opportunities for continuous learning to enhance their skills and knowledge.
