Success depends on skills, efficiency, and access to digital tools like scanners and editing software, often requiring a reliable internet connection and experience in digital workflows.

AspectDigitizingData Entry Clerk
Required CredentialsBasic computer skills, sometimes specialized software knowledgeHigh school diploma, basic computer skills

Industry UsagePrinting, GIS, graphic design, digital archivingBusiness, healthcare, finance, general administration

Digitizing involves converting physical or analog data into digital formats, often requiring specialized software and technical skills. Data Entry Clerks focus on inputting data into databases or spreadsheets, typically with basic computer skills. While both roles involve working with digital information, digitizing is more technical and specialized, whereas data entry is more administrative and routine.

What jobs make $3,000 a month without a degree?

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Digitizing Specialist, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Digitizing Specialist, you need a strong understanding of design principles, attention to detail, and familiarity with embroidery or graphic design processes, often supported by relevant training or experience. Proficiency with digitizing software such as Wilcom, Pulse, or Adobe Illustrator, and knowledge of various embroidery machine formats is typically required. Excellent problem-solving skills, communication, and adaptability help you manage client expectations and troubleshoot design issues. These skills ensure high-quality digital conversions, efficient workflow, and client satisfaction in a fast-paced production environment.

What are some common challenges faced by digitizers when converting physical documents or designs into digital formats?

Digitizers often encounter challenges such as dealing with poor-quality originals, which can make accurate digital reproduction difficult. Interpreting complex or faded details, managing large volumes of documents under tight deadlines, and ensuring data accuracy during manual entry are common hurdles. Additionally, digitizers must stay updated on the latest scanning and software technologies to maintain efficiency and meet evolving industry standards. Collaboration with quality control teams and clear communication with clients are essential to address any ambiguities and ensure high-quality results.

What is digitizing in the context of jobs?

Digitizing refers to the process of converting information, images, or designs into a digital format that can be used by computers or digital equipment. In industries like embroidery, digitizing involves creating a digital embroidery file from a graphic or logo, which embroidery machines can then stitch onto fabric. Digitizing can also apply to document management, where physical documents are scanned and converted into digital files for easier storage, access, and sharing. This process improves efficiency and enables better data management across various sectors.

Job description

Product Manager, Digitizing

Company: Legacybox
Location: Chattanooga, TN (On-site)
Type: Full-time

About Legacybox

We help families preserve the things that only exist once.

From VHS tapes and film reels to printed photos, negatives, slides, DVDs, camcorder cassettes, memory cards, and phones, we digitize the media that matters most so families can revisit and share those moments for generations to come.

But we believe the future of Legacybox is much larger than digitization alone.

Weโ€™re building a long-term family memory platform while expanding the very definition of what can be preserved.

We are not in the digitization business. We are in the irreplaceable business.

The Role

Weโ€™re hiring a Product Manager to own Digifactory OS, the proprietary software platform that powers our digitization facility.

Digifactory is our production operation. Every day, thousands of irreplaceable photos, tapes, film reels, audio recordings, and other family artifacts move through hundreds of workstations as theyโ€™re carefully transformed into digital memories.

Digifactory OS is the software that makes all of it possible.

It routes every order through production, coordinates digitization equipment and operators, tracks every item in real time, integrates with our ecommerce platform and customer applications, powers customer notifications, and enables us to continually expand what Legacybox can preserve.

Youโ€™ll own the product roadmap for Digifactory OS, working closely with Engineering, Operations, R&D, Customer Experience, and Marketing to improve capacity, quality, automation, and the customer experience.

This isnโ€™t an internal tools role.

The software you build determines how quickly families receive their memories, how well those memories are preserved, and what entirely new kinds of memories weโ€™ll be able to preserve next.

What Youโ€™ll DoOwn Digifactory OS
  • Define and prioritize the product roadmap for Digifactory OS.
  • Partner with Product to design, build, and ship software that powers our production facility.
  • Work closely with Operations to identify bottlenecks and turn them into software solutions.
  • Balance customer impact, operational efficiency, and engineering investment when making product decisions.
Expand What We Digitize

One of our company goals is simple:

Digitize everything.

Youโ€™ll work alongside our R&D team to bring new digitization technologies into production, whether thatโ€™s new scanners, capture hardware, restoration software, AI capabilities, or entirely new categories of media.

Every new capability becomes part of Digifactory OS.

Improve Factory Performance
  • Increase production capacity through better software.
  • Automate repetitive workflows throughout the factory.
  • Improve quality assurance using software and AI.
  • Reduce friction for production operators.
  • Improve production visibility, reporting, and operational analytics.
  • Continuously optimize how work moves through the factory.
Improve the Customer Experience

The factory doesnโ€™t end at the production floor.

Youโ€™ll improve the systems that keep customers informed throughout the digitization process, making order tracking, production updates, and delivery expectations clearer and more transparent.

Youโ€™ll also help ensure Digifactory OS integrates seamlessly with Legacybox.com, Shopify, our customer applications, and our internal business systems.

What Weโ€™re Looking For
  • Experience managing software products or complex operational systems.
  • Experience working closely with software engineering teams.
  • Strong product judgment and prioritization skills.
  • Ability to simplify complex operational workflows.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication.
  • Highly organized without becoming bureaucratic.
  • Curious about AI, automation, and process improvement.
  • Comfortable spending time on the production floor learning how the work actually happens.
  • Bias toward ownership, execution, and continuous improvement.
Nice to Have
  • Manufacturing or factory software
  • Warehouse management or logistics systems
  • Ecommerce platforms such as Shopify
  • AI and automation workflows
  • Computer vision or machine learning
  • Robotics or industrial automation
  • Systems integration and APIs
  • Startup or high-growth technology environments

What Success Looks Like
  • Digifactory OS becomes a competitive advantage for Legacybox.
  • Factory throughput and capacity increase through software improvements.
  • Manual production work is reduced through thoughtful automation.
  • Customers receive faster, clearer, and more accurate production updates.
  • New digitization technologies are brought online more quickly.
  • Production quality continues to improve through better software and AI-assisted workflows.
  • Engineering, Operations, and R&D work from a shared product roadmap with clear priorities.

Why Join Us

Most product managers spend their careers optimizing software that exists entirely on a screen.

At Legacybox, youโ€™ll build software that directly controls how a real production facility operates.

Your work will influence factory throughput, quality assurance, AI automation, robotics, customer communication, ecommerce, and the preservation of millions of irreplaceable family memories every year.

Digifactory OS sits at the intersection of manufacturing, software, AI, computer vision, ecommerce, and consumer products. Few product roles offer that breadthโ€”or the opportunity to see your work immediately improve both the customer experience and the physical world.

Compensation & BenefitsSalary

Competitive salary based on experience.

Benefits
  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance
  • 401(k) with company matching
  • Competitive PTO
  • Professional development budget
  • Equipment you need to do your best work
  • Free Legacybox digitization service for your own family memories

Why Chattanooga?

This role is based in Chattanooga because the product lives in the factory.

The best ideas come from standing next to operators, watching production flow, understanding bottlenecks firsthand, and seeing the impact of your work in real time. If you enjoy building software thatโ€™s tightly connected to the physical world, thereโ€™s no better place to do it.

Legacybox is an equal opportunity employer. We celebrate diversity and are committed to creating an inclusive workplace where everyone can do their best work. Employment decisions are based on qualifications, merit, and business needs.
