Job Description

DUTIES:Executes clay or digital models by developing aesthetic surfaces that meet time and quality requirements as directed by Sculpting Leadership. Contributes to problem solving by collaborating with design and engineering stakeholders. Mentors' others in efficient methods for developing processes, integrating innovative technologies, and creating workflows. Exhibits a safety mindset while identifying, taking ownership, and resolving safety concerns. Develops high quality surfaces for digital or clay models throughout the Global Vehicle Development Process (GVDP). Accounts for measurable high-quality, timely, and cost-effective results without compromising the integrity, safety, and quality of work. Supports surface releases that meet design approval, production engineering, and data release requirements. Adheres to common GM Global Design processes and best practices. Maintains knowledge of current trends in design, technology, production methods, and materials. Mentors others in achieving GVDP modeling standards and technical ability. Attends appropriate program related meetings as defined by Sculpting Leadership. Performs accurate assessment of surface quality (clay or digital). Adheres to corporate data management processes (TeamCenter, SharePoint, etc.) and communication systems (timekeeping, email, etc.). Asks for and anticipates customer needs and makes all business decisions to support those needs.

REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor's degree, or equivalent, in Industrial Design or related field, and zero (0) years of experience. Employer will accept one year of related
experience in lieu of one year of education. Must also have experience with: Estimating accurate timing requirements for Global Vehicle Development Process (GVDP) model execution, evolution, and excellence.
Utilizing creative digital sculpting, clay sculpting, and physical milling processes to develop surfaces that meet design and engineering specifications; Interpreting sketches to translate 2D designs and artistic direction into 3D mathematical models; and Production and manufacturing processes applicable to surface development including die pull direction, draft angle, material graining provisions, parting line location, geometric dimensioning and tolerancing specifications, formability requirements, vehicle packaging and integration system realization.
