Job description

Tangram Flex is seeking a Portfolio Manager [PfM] with a minimum of 8 years of experience in program leadership and/or technical oversight of defense projects to lead a key portfolio of programs supporting the development and integration of mission systems for our Air Force and DoW customers. This position is located in Dayton, Ohio and will require a U.S. Government Security Clearance.

OVERVIEW /

Reporting directly to the CEO, this professional serves as a bridge between customer needs and technical delivery. The PfM will shape mission relevant solutions, support capture and growth activities, and translate requirements into executable program deliverables across six programs, focused on verification of missions systems components and integration of capabilities onto platforms for US DoW Customers.

The PfM will work closely with customers, the growth team, and engineering to identify and mature opportunities, define value propositions, prioritize investments across programs, and ensure solutions are scalable and relevant across the portfolio. By balancing customer mission, pipeline growth, and portfolio health, this role drives sustainable business outcomes while ensuring program performance consistency, risk management, and return on investment across multiple initiatives.

This position requires close collaboration with government customers, primes/subcontractors, and internal stakeholders to balance strategy, growth, and execution objectives. This role requires a strong background in systems integration, software engineering concepts, and digital engineering practices to effectively guide cross-functional teams in the delivery of complex technical solutions. PfMโ€™s maintain a focus on, and ensure:

  • Establishing, building, and deepening relationships with Portfolio customers to ensure performance is customer-focused
  • Measurable growth of Portfolio through securing of follow on work.
  • Successful execution of the Portfolio's Programs based on contractual commitments (technical delivery on schedule, on budget);
  • Regular communication of Portfolio Performance to Tangram leadership (and other stakeholders, as needed).
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES /

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Customer Relationship Ownership
    • Serve as the primary customer-facing strategic and technical point of contact for the portfolio.
    • Build and maintain trusted customer relationships that drive successful program execution, repeat business, and growth opportunities.
    • Understand customer business objectives, technical requirements, constraints, and success criteria, translating them into actionable guidance for engineering, product, and business teams.
    • Communicate complex technical concepts, solution tradeoffs, risks, and capabilities to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
    • Manage customer expectations and proactively resolve issues in alignment with company values and business objectives.
  • Portfolio Leadership
    • Own the execution success and growth of a portfolio of programs focused on advancing capabilities and integration of new systems onto airborne platforms.
    • Lead the successful execution and growth of a portfolio of programs supporting the integration of advanced mission systems onto airborne platforms.
    • Translate high-level business and technical needs into clear solution requirements and architectures that align with customer objectives, budgets, schedules, and technical constraints.
    • Ensure portfolio-wide coordination among Program Managers, Technical Leads, and engineering teams to deliver scalable, secure, compliant, and supportable solutions.
    • Evaluate technologies, guide architectural decisions, document key assumptions and risks, and adapt solutions as requirements evolve.
    • Maintain deep expertise in Tangram Flex products and provide technical leadership through solution implementation and transition to delivery teams.
  • Business Growth Activities
    • Partner with business development teams to identify, qualify, capture, and expand opportunities within the portfolio
    • Lead capture activities including customer engagement, competitive assessments, teaming strategies, solution shaping, and proposal development support.
    • Contribute to technical proposals, management approaches, pricing strategies, statements of work, and transition from capture to program execution.
    • Help develop winning strategies by aligning Company capabilities with customer needs; serving as a trusted technical advisor throughout the program life cycle.
DESIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE/

Required Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree within any of these disciplines, Business, Engineering, Computer Science, or Operations Management, equivalent successful experience in a similar industry role.
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience managing, supporting, or leading technical programs in a Federal Government (DoW) environment, ideally involving the development and integration of new mission systems.
  • Strong understanding of software engineering concepts, specifically DoW software and systems engineering environments including software development life cycle (SDLC), agile practices, and systems integration.
  • Demonstrated experience growing the scope and or value of programs or portfolios organically within the DoW market.
  • Possess a current/or recent U.S. Government Security Clearance or the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.
  • Ability to travel up to 20%
