The Opportunity

McFadyen Digital is looking for a Solution Architect to design the next generation of AI-powered ecommerce and marketplace platforms for our Fortune 500 clients โ€” while also leading McFadyen's own internal AI initiatives. This is a rare dual mandate: you'll architect scalable commerce and marketplace solutions for our clients, and you'll set the vision and roadmap for how McFadyen adopts and operationalizes AI across the business. If you love solving hard technical problems at the intersection of commerce, data, and artificial intelligence, this role is built for you.

Responsibilities Top 5 Responsibilities
  1. Own technology solutioning for ecommerce and marketplace sales prospects. Lead sales discovery sessions to collect and document business requirements and translate them into technology solutions that integrate enterprise platforms (e.g. Adobe Commerce, commercetools, Mirakl, Akeneo, Databricks), AI tools, custom software development, and business process transformation.
  2. Craft compelling presentations, proposals, ROI/value statements, and demos that showcase a prospectโ€™s ecommerce, marketplace, data, and/or AI needs. Collaborate with our sales and delivery organization to write the scope, assumptions, requirements, and technical aspects of SOWs.
  3. Collaborate with our delivery team to estimate staffing and timelines to create cost models.
  4. Serve as a technical advisor to existing clients and cross-sell additional services/solutions such as data management/optimization, AI enhancements, cross-channel expansion, and evolving partner solutions.
  5. Evaluate and demonstrate emerging AI/ML technologies โ€” including LLM extensions, generative AI, data enrichment, conversational interfaces, and agentic frameworks โ€” to enhance both McFadyen's service offerings and internal demo/delivery capabilities.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Design solution architectures on platforms like Adobe Commerce, SFCC, SAP Hybris, commercetools, and Mirakl, integrating AI/ML models and data pipelines.
  • Author thought leadership content for marketing and sales purposes.
  • Stay current on evolving offerings from our software partners and be ready to demonstrate them to prospects and clients.
  • Produce solution design documents, integration specifications, and architecture diagrams for both client and internal initiatives.
  • Partner with sales and pre-sales teams to develop proposals, RFP/RFI responses, SOWs, and proof-of-concepts, including effort/level-of-effort estimation and pricing input.
  • Guide engineering and delivery teams on AI implementation best practices, including MLOps and responsible AI governance.
  • Champion data strategy and data architecture practices (data pipelines, data lakes, analytics) that underpin AI initiatives.
  • Stay current on AI/ML advancements and proactively evaluate their applicability to commerce and marketplace use cases.
  • Enforce good processes for sales document preparation, management, and collaboration.
  • Mentor architects and engineers across the organization on AI adoption and modern commerce architecture.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with product, engineering, and client stakeholders to keep McFadyen's AI roadmap aligned with business priorities.
  • Embed AI-driven capabilities such as personalization, intelligent search, product recommendations, dynamic pricing, and fraud/anomaly detection.
Qualifications Top 5 Qualifications
  1. 10+ years of experience in solution/technical architecture, with a strong focus on ecommerce or marketplace platforms, ideally in both B2B and B2C / retail.
  2. Proven success as a sales engineer or similar sales-related role, promoting enterprise web technology - ideally ecommerce, marketplace, data management, content management, or similar solutions. Responsibilities should have included solutioning, effort/level-of-effort estimation, proposal and SOW development, and RFP/RFI response for enterprise clients.
  3. Compelling communication and presentation skills honed by interacting with both business executives and technology teams at enterprise-scale organizations.
  4. Deep expertise in at least one major commerce platform (Adobe Commerce, commercetools, Shopify, Mirakl, SFCC, SAP Hybris, or similar).
  5. Proven, handsโ€‘on experience designing and deploying AI/ML solutions (recommendation engines, NLP, generative AI, LLMs) in production environments.
Additional Qualifications
  • Demonstrated experience leading or driving an organization's AI strategy or innovation initiative.
  • Strong understanding of APIโ€‘first, headless, and composable architectures, along with integration patterns (REST, GraphQL, eventโ€‘driven) and/or MACH approaches.
  • Ability to travel, typically several days per month, within the USA.
  • Track record of contributing to won deals through technical solutioning and estimation as part of a presales or pursuit team.
  • Experience with data engineering or data architecture (data pipelines, data warehousing, data lakes) is a strong plus.
  • Experience with Databricks a major plus.
  • Familiarity with cloud AI/ML platforms (AWS SageMaker, Azure AI, Google Vertex AI, AWS Bedrock) and MLOps practices.
  • Ability to plan for and answer technical questions on platform security.
  • Experience in enterprise digital transformation programs.
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, or a related field.
  • Based in the United States, with the ability to collaborate across McFadyen's global teams (US, Brazil, India).
What We Can Offer You
  • A career with thought leaders who literally wrote the books on Ecommerce Best Practices, Marketplace Best Practices, and AI Best Practices.
  • A career in the fastโ€‘paced world of retail ecommerce, digital marketplaces, and platform businesses.
