To excel as a Digital Intermediate, you need a strong background in color grading, digital imaging, and post-production workflows, often supported by a degree in film or digital media. Proficiency with industry-standard software such as DaVinci Resolve, Baselight, and knowledge of various video formats and color spaces is essential. As a Digital Intermediate (DI) artist, you'll work closely with various post-production teams, including colorists, editors, visual effects artists, and sound designers. Collaboration is essential, as DI artists ensure that the director’s visual intent is maintained across all departments. Strong communication and teamwork skills are crucial for delivering a cohesive final product.

This process allows for creative visual effects integration and ensures consistency across different viewing formats. DI has largely replaced traditional photochemical color timing, offering more flexibility and control over the final image.
