Working within a pod, Senior Digital Strategists provide advanced support to client email programs, as well as some basic client leadership. This job is an opportunity to learn how to manage client email programs, and to hone more advanced skills in the area of email copywriting and creative development, production, reporting, and client management. Senior Digital Strategists typically report to Managing Digital Strategists. 

This role is a part of the bargaining unit.

Job Responsibilities;

  • Oversees the email content creation process 
    • Writes content for emails and landing pages (with little supervision) 
      • Can delegate the writing process to more junior podmates; subsequently oversees their work, providing guidance and feedback as needed 
    • Makes sure email content aligns with client voices and comports with best practices 
    • Uses effective theories of change in their creative 
      • Ensures teammates are also using effective theories of change 
  • Oversees the content reviewing, revising, editing, and approval process
    • Collaborates with podmates and clients to get content reviewed, edited, and approved 
      • Can delegate this process to more junior podmates; subsequently oversees their work, providing guidance and feedback as needed. 
  • Oversees the email production process 
    •  Codes, produces, targets, and launches emails (with little supervision and few to no mistakes) 
      • Can delegate the email production process to more junior podmates; subsequently oversees their work, providing guidance and feedback as needed.
  • Can leverage intermediate HTML, CSS, and SQL knowledge 
  • Can leverage intermediate knowledge of CRM functionalities 
    • Uses intermediate testing knowledge

    • Pulls, reads, interprets, and presents email performance metrics

    • Can own parts of client meetings 
  • Frequently contributes ideas to email content calendars 
    • Helps build out those calendars 
    • Updates calendars as needed 
  • Often reviews peer work for accuracy, functionality, and alignment with best practices 
    • Includes proofing test emails 
  • Assists with helping onboard new clients 
    • Helps stand up new CRM and ActBlue instances 
  • Sometimes contributes to new business proposals 
  • Sometimes project manages client work (with little supervision) 
  • Other responsibilities as requested 

Requirements

  • 2+ years of relevant experience in email fundraising (or similar) 
  • Mastery of 3+ common CRMs or fundraising platforms (ActionKit, ActBlue, ActionNetwork, EveryAction, etc.) 
  • Mastery of email writing for fundraising 
  • Proficiency in HTML and CSS as needed to run major email programs 
  • Able to manage large clients unassisted 
  • Creative writing chops 
  • Enthusiasm for data and testing fundraising content 
  • A desire to play a role in fundraising for major political campaigns, nonprofits, and causes 
  • Attention to detail

Strongly Preferred but Not Required:

  • Agency or campaign experience
  • Experience working in email and digital strategy
  • Knowledge of different CRMs (Action Kit, BSD, Action Network, NGP, etc.)
