Job description

The School of Architecture and Planning is seeking applications for Fab Lab Lead Assistants. Under the direct supervision and mentorship of the Fabrication Lab Manager, Fab Lab Lead Assistants will be involved in a wide range of projects with varying levels of complexity. Fab Lab Lead Assistants will support the Fab Lab Coordinator and Fab Lab Manager in oversight of the Fab Lab during all open hours. The responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to: guiding the work of student and faculty users; training faculty and students on the use of tools and machinery; cleaning and maintaining order in the Lab; ensuring that Fabrication Lab Assistants are following Lab protocols; assisting or leading special projects related to the Lab or Pearl Hall facility; and reporting problems to Fab Lab management.
Additional responsibilities will include the ability to move and lift objects up to 30lbs, operating and performing maintenance on analog tools and equipment in the woodshop and metal shop, as well as digital fabrication equipment such as laser cutters, CNC routers, CNC plasma cutters, 3D printers and associated software/programs. All applicants must have the capacity to maintain a safe and professional attitude. The successful candidate will be required to complete all required safety and equipment trainings.
