Position summary

The Business Development Manager, Industries & Markets will serve as a strategic partner to attorneys in the firm's Financial Services Industry Team, as well as its Digital Assets and Financial Regulation and Innovation groups, with a focus on supporting the firm's presence across markets. This role will drive targeted business development initiatives, client growth strategies, and market positioning for practices advising banks, fintech companies, payments providers, digital asset platforms, and other regulated financial institutions. The Manager will work closely with partners, practice leadership, and cross-office teams to identify growth opportunities, enhance client relationships, and elevate the firm's brand in traditional and emerging financial services sectors.

Position responsibilities

Practice & Industry Strategy:

  • Partner with Financial Services, Digital Assets, and Financial Regulation and Innovation leaders to develop and execute strategic business development plans aligned with firmwide objectives.
  • Support industry-focused initiatives addressing banking, payments, fintech, blockchain, cryptocurrency, and other digital asset-related sectors.
  • Assist with annual practice planning, revenue growth initiatives, and go-to-market strategies for national and cross-office teams.

Client & Market Intelligence:

  • Monitor regulatory, industry, and market trends impacting financial institutions and digital asset businesses.
  • Liaise with competitive intelligence team to produce research on target clients, prospects, competitors, and market opportunities to inform client pitches and strategic outreach.
  • Translate market insights into actionable recommendations for attorneys and client teams.

Client Development & Relationship Support:

  • Support client teams in identifying cross-selling opportunities and expanding relationships with existing financial services and digital asset clients.
  • Develop tailored pitch materials, proposals, and client presentations for regulated financial institutions, fintech companies, and emerging technology clients.
  • Assist attorneys in preparing for client meetings, industry conferences, and thought-leadership engagements.

Thought Leadership & Marketing Collaboration:

  • Collaborate with Marketing & Communications to support thought leadership initiatives related to financial regulation, fintech innovation, digital assets, and blockchain.
  • Assist with submissions for legal directories, awards, rankings, and speaking opportunities relevant to Financial Services and Digital Assets practices.
  • Coordinate practice-specific events, webinars, and sponsorships targeting financial services and digital asset audiences.

Reporting & Internal Collaboration:

  • Track business development activity, proposal outcomes, and pipeline opportunities for assigned practices.
  • Serve as the primary BD contact for designated partners and practice groups.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams (Events, Communications, Research, CRM, and Operations) to ensure integrated and consistent execution.

The role will primarily support clients and prospects in:

  • Financial Services & Banking - commercial banks, investment banks, payments providers, and financial intermediaries.
  • Fintech & Payments - digital payments, lending platforms, and financial technology innovators.
  • Digital Assets & Blockchain - cryptocurrency exchanges, token issuers, blockchain infrastructure providers, and Web3 companies.
  • Regulated Financial Institutions - entities navigating complex federal and state regulatory frameworks.
  • Private Capital & Emerging Companies - venture-backed fintech and digital asset businesses.

Experience, skills, and qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Design, Marketing, Communications, or related field required.
  • 7+ years of relevant business development or marketing experience in a law firm or professional services environment required; financial services or technology focus strongly preferred.
  • Must live within a commutable distance to a firm office with the ability to come into the office 3-4 days per week.
  • Familiarity with financial services regulation, fintech, or digital asset markets is highly desirable.
  • Prior management experience desired.
  • Strong strategic thinking, project management, and communication skills.
  • Experience developing client pitches, proposals, and industry-specific marketing initiatives.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and CRM/business intelligence platforms.
  • Strategic, analytical, and results-driven mindset.
  • Strong relationship-building and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to translate complex regulatory and market concepts into clear BD strategies.

Salary

New York based applicants only: The target annual salary range for this role is currently $165,000 - $190,000 based on a regular, full-time schedule. The amount of compensation offered will be determined by several factors, including but not limited to experience, qualifications, market data and internal equity. Total compensation includes a comprehensive healthcare benefits package, yearly retirement contribution, and may include an annual discretionary merit bonus.

Washington, DC based applicants only: The target annual salary range for this role is currently $135,000 - $175,000 based on a regular, full-time schedule. The amount of compensation offered will be determined by several factors, including but not limited to experience, qualifications, market data and internal equity. Total compensation includes a comprehensive healthcare benefits package, yearly retirement contribution, and may include an annual discretionary merit bonus.
