Senior Manager, Strategic Communications

Budgeted Salary Range: $90,000-$105,000

Reports to: Chief Advancement Officer

Position Summary

The Senior Manager, Strategic Communications leads AABR's integrated communications strategy to strengthen organizational alignment, enhance visibility, and support fundraising, recruitment, and stakeholder engagement.

Working closely with the Chief Advancement Officer and senior leadership, this role develops and oversees strategic internal and external communications, ensuring consistent messaging that advances AABR's mission, brand, and organizational priorities.

Serving as the organization's communications strategist, this position builds the systems, messaging, and processes that support effective communications across the organization while managing key communications partners and initiatives.

Core ResponsibilitiesStrategic Communications
  • Develop and implement an enterprise-wide communications strategy aligned with organizational goals.
  • Establish messaging frameworks, editorial standards, and communication processes.
  • Serve as the primary liaison to public relations, marketing, creative, and digital communications consultants, ensuring alignment with organizational strategy, messaging, and brand standards.
Internal & Executive Communications
  • Lead internal communications initiatives that strengthen employee engagement and organizational alignment.
  • Develop executive communications, leadership messaging, presentations, and organizational announcements.
  • Oversee the development and governance of the organization's intranet and internal communications channels.
External Communications & Storytelling
  • Lead organizational storytelling and content strategy across print and digital platforms.
  • Develop communications supporting fundraising campaigns, organizational initiatives, and major events.
  • Oversee production of the annual report and other key organizational publications.
  • Identify opportunities to increase organizational visibility and thought leadership.
Digital Communications
  • Provide strategic oversight for website content, email communications, and social media messaging.
  • Develop editorial calendars and content priorities aligned with organizational objectives.
  • Monitor communications effectiveness and recommend continuous improvements.
Agency & Vendor Management
  • Manage external communications, creative, and digital vendors.
  • Ensure consistency in messaging, branding, and quality across all communications projects.
QualificationsEducation & Experience
  • Bachelor's degree required in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, Journalism, English, or a related field.
  • Minimum 7-10 years of progressive communications experience, including strategic communications, public relations, corporate communications, or nonprofit communications.
  • Demonstrated experience developing integrated communications strategies and executive communications.
  • Experience managing communications projects, agencies, or external vendors.
  • Nonprofit or mission-driven organizational experience preferred.
