Fanatics has an established database of over 100 million global sports fans; a global partner network with approximately 900 sports properties, including major national and international professional sports leagues, players associations, teams, colleges, college conferences and retail partners, 2,500 athletes and celebrities, and 200 exclusive athletes; and over 2,000 retail locations, including its Lids retail stores. Our more than 22,000 employees are committed to relentlessly enhancing the fan experience and delighting sports fans globally.
About the Team
Fanatics Collectibles is a new company operating at the intersection of collectibles, culture, and technology. Backed by world-class investors, operators, and sports & entertainment partners, we are building the global leader in next-generation collectibles. As part of the broader Fanatics ecosystem, we leverage a digital sports platform that spans over 900 sports properties and engages more than 81 million fans. Together, we are reimagining every part of the collectibles experience for fans, partners, and creators.
Role Summary
We're looking for a hands-on data leader to own and rebuild the data foundation for our digital gaming portfolio. This role will be responsible for how data is collected, stored, modeled, and used across the business-and will partner closely with product to ensure we're making better decisions around player behavior, engagement, and monetization.
This is not a pure management role. You will initially operate as a player-coach, directly owning key data workflows while laying the groundwork to scale the function over time.
What You'll Do:
  • Take ownership of the existing data stack and improve its reliability, structure, and usability
  • Build and maintain core data pipelines, models, and datasets (hands-on)
  • Establish clear KPI definitions and reporting used by product, leadership, and external partners
  • Partner closely with product, game design, and UI/UX to translate roadmap questions into data and insights
  • Act as the bridge between product and data-translating business questions into data requirements and explaining insights in clear, non-technical terms
  • Define how we measure whether features, events, and in-game changes are successful
  • Ensure product, marketing, and studio teams can easily access and understand the data they need
  • Support cross-platform initiatives (e.g., Fanatics One login, webshop/backend integration) with clean, unified data and reporting
  • Deliver consistent reporting and insights to licensors (MLB, NBA, Disney, etc.)
  • Lay the foundation for scaling the data team over time

Responsibilities
  • Build and maintain scalable data pipelines and workflows using modern data platforms (e.g., Databricks or similar)
  • Design and maintain clean, well-structured datasets for analytics and reporting
  • Own product analytics instrumentation and event tracking across mobile apps
  • Develop dashboards and reporting using BI and analytics tools (e.g., Looker, mixpanel, or similar)
  • Analyze player behavior, engagement, and monetization to identify opportunities for growth
  • Support experimentation and A/B testing to improve product performance
  • Partner with engineering and platform teams to align data across systems (identity, commerce, marketplace)
  • Operate as a hands-on leader, directly owning key data workflows
  • Work with an existing dashboard/BI resource

Required Experience
  • 5+ years in data engineering, analytics, or related roles, ideally in mobile, gaming, or consumer apps
  • Strong hands-on experience building and maintaining data pipelines and data models
  • Advanced SQL skills
  • Experience with Python and/or R for data analysis, modeling, or automation
  • Experience with modern data platforms
  • Experience with BI and product analytics tools
  • Experience working closely with product teams and non-technical stakeholders

Preferred
  • Experience in free-to-play gaming, marketplaces, or digital collectibles
  • Experience with identity systems and cross-platform data (e.g., SSO, unified user profiles)
  • Knowledge of physical and/or digital card collecting ecosystem
  • Experience supporting reporting for external partners or licensors

Success Profile
  • Hands-on builder who is comfortable working in the data layer directly
  • Able to translate between technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Pragmatic-focuses on what's useful vs. perfect
  • Comfortable operating in an environment that is still being built
