Marketing Communications Specialist Job Summary
SmartStop Self Storage is seeking a Marketing Specialist to support and elevate the company's brand through strong brand stewardship, content development, and effective management of marketing systems and tools. Reporting to the VP of Marketing, this role ensures SmartStop presents a consistent, polished brand across customer and employee touchpoints while serving as the internal owner of key communications platforms.
Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities
  • Supports and upholds SmartStop's brand identity across all marketing and communication channels
  • Creates compelling content, including website copy, email campaigns, internal communications, marketing collateral, and press releases.
  • Drafts and distributes press releases in alignment with brand messaging and AP style standards
  • Ensures all written content adheres to AP Style and maintains consistency in tone, voice, and quality
  • Serves as the internal owner of the company's digital asset management system, ensuring assets are organized, current, and accessible
  • Also serves as the internal owner of the company's intranet, ensuring content is timely, relevant, and engaging
  • Trains employees on digital asset management system usage, brand standards, intranet functionality and best practices to support internal communications
  • Manages email marketing campaigns in Constant Contact, including content development, list management, deployment, and performance tracking
  • Partners with external vendors and agencies to execute marketing projects including SmartStop's social media agency to manage content, ensure alignment with brand standards, and support engagement goals
  • Tracks and analyzes performance metrics across campaigns and channels, providing insights and recommendations
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications Needed
  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, or related field required.
  • 2 - 5 years of marketing experience, including content development, brand management and marketing systems
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with demonstrated experience drafting press releases
  • Working knowledge of AP Style and ability to apply it consistently across content
  • Demonstrated creativity and strong attention to detail
  • Experience managing brand standards across multiple channels
  • Strong organizational and project management skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities with strict adherence to deadlines
  • Experience with marketing platforms and systems, including email marketing tools (Constant Contact preferred) and digital asset management systems (Brandfolder a plus!)
  • Experience supporting or managing intranet or internal communications platforms
  • Ability to train and support internal users on systems and tools
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office; working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite is a plus
  • Analytical mindset with the ability to interpret data and optimize performance
  • Ability to work collaboratively, and proactively, with cross-functional teams.
