Job description

JARBO is hiring an On-site Diesel Mechanic in Pittsburgh, PA to support a heavy-duty diesel fleet and specialty contractor equipment. This role is responsible for helping diagnose, maintain, and repair jet/vac trucks, combo sewer cleaning trucks, vacuum trucks, street sweepers, and other mounted hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems.

This is a day shift position with a Monday through Friday schedule and overtime available.

Key Responsibilities – Diesel Mechanic

  • Perform preventive maintenance services including oil changes, filter replacements, lubrication, and fluid checks support DOT inspections/compliance checks on jet/vac units, combo units, sweepers, and related fleet equipment
  • Diagnose, maintain, and repair diesel trucks and related equipment including jet/vac trucks, combo sewer trucks, vacuum trucks, street sweepers, roll-offs, dump trucks, tractors, trailers, and service trucks
  • Use diagnostic tools and scanners to identify issues and assist with troubleshooting and repair of mechanical and electrical faults
  • Service and maintain high-pressure water jetting systems, vacuum pumps, blowers, tanks, hose reels, and sewer cleaning equipment to help keep units safe and reliable
  • Inspect, maintain, and repair hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems on trucks and mounted equipment, including diesel engines, generators, compressors, and auxiliary power units
  • Assist with maintenance of sweeper systems including brooms, conveyors, spray systems, and hoppers
  • Complete repair and PM documentation to support company and DOT compliance records
  • Perform basic fabrication or welding repairs as needed

Minimum Qualifications – Diesel Mechanic

  • At least 1 year of mechanical experience working on diesel trucks, automotive vehicles, heavy equipment, trailers, or similar mobile equipment
  • Valid driver’s license required
  • Willing and able to obtain a CDL Class B with Air Brake Endorsement within 180 days of hire (in-house program provided)
  • Basic to intermediate knowledge of mechanical systems, with the ability to learn and troubleshoot diesel engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, vacuum systems, or high-pressure water systems
  • Ability to use or learn diagnostic scanners and troubleshooting tools
  • Basic welding or mechanical repair ability preferred, or willingness to learn simple repair welding as part of the role
  • Must own or be willing to obtain a standard set of personal hand tools
  • Ability to pass a background check and drug screen

Preferred Qualifications

  • 2+ years of experience repairing diesel trucks, heavy equipment, municipal fleet, contractor equipment, or similar vehicles
  • Experience with jet/vac trucks, combo sewer cleaning trucks, vacuum trucks, street sweepers, or other specialty mounted equipment
  • Familiarity with hydraulic, pneumatic, vacuum, electrical, and high-pressure water systems
  • Experience performing preventive maintenance, DOT inspections, and fleet repair documentation
  • Welding experience, including basic MIG or stick repair welding
  • Prior work on contractor, municipal, environmental, or waste-fleet equipment
  • Familiarity with sweeper components such as brooms, conveyors, spray systems, and hopper systems
  • CDL Class B with Air Brake or Tankers Endorsement
  • Pennsylvania state inspection license, or willingness to obtain after hire
  • OSHA 10, OSHA 40, or other safety certifications

Physical Requirements – Diesel Mechanic

  • On-site shop and yard work in Pittsburgh, PA
  • Stand, kneel, bend, climb, reach, and work around/under large trucks and mounted equipment throughout the shift
  • Lift, push, and pull up to 50 pounds regularly; occasional heavier lifting with team or equipment assistance
  • Work with hand tools, power tools, lifts, and shop equipment in an environment that may include grease, fuel, hydraulic fluid, and shop noise
  • Schedule is Monday through Friday, approximately 6:00 AM to 4:00 PM, with overtime as needed
