Job Title: Generator Mechanic

Department: Base Operations & Maintenance
General Summary:
We are looking for a reliable, skilled generator mechanic to run and maintain standby generators and perform essential upkeep tasks throughout the facility. This position will be responsible for a wide variety of activities, such as repairs and the operation of generators. Being reliable and self-motivated with a keen eye for detail is essential in this job, as the ideal candidate will have significant work experience and solid technical knowledge.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Able to troubleshoot, service, maintain, and repair all makes of standby generators.
• Diagnose, repair, adjust, and modify all components of the generator, engine, and switchgear.
• Conduct start-up, preventive maintenance, and service of standby generators.
• Work on common standby generator brands such as Cummins, Caterpillar, Kohler, Generac, Briggs & Stratton.
• Install necessary equipment as needed.
• Check system controls and critical systems, logging information as required, and complete minor adjustments as needed.
• Perform necessary cleaning activities and wipe down engines.
• Complete regular maintenance tasks, such as preventative maintenance work and work requests.
• Inspect and troubleshoot various equipment and systems
• Report to facilities or maintenance manager regarding issues resolved, those needing attention
• Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Experience and Skill Requirements:
• High school diploma or equivalent
• 3-5 years of diesel generator experience.
• Proven experience as a maintenance worker or other similar position.
• Basic working knowledge of electrical and electronic systems
• Experience working with tools, including hand and electrical tools
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• General passion for creative problem-solving
Work Environment:
• Must be able to lift 50 lbs., squat, bend, stoop, and kneel for short periods, climb a ladder, stand for long periods of time, constant arm extensions.
• Occasional exposure to elements such as heat, cold, noise, dust, dirt, chemicals, but none to the point of being disagreeable. May involve minor safety hazards where the likely result would be cuts, bruises, etc.
• Work a modified schedule to monitor generators.
