POSITION SUMMARY:                  
This position performs the maintenance and repairs of the company’s fleet. The fleet consists of vehicles, and heavy equipment (top loaders, mules, forklifts, step vans, cars, etc.). This position may also perform maintenance and repairs to the company’s cranes. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. QUALIFICATIONS:
Primary
  • Full diesel mechanic – minimum two (2) years of experience diagnosing, repairing, maintaining, and overhauling diesel engines.
  • Experience diagnosing and troubleshooting mechanical and electrical systems components – turbo, fuel injection, A/C, EGR, pumps, alternator, starter, drive train, etc.
  • Knowledge of diesel engine assembly practices, specifications, and procedures involved in maintenance repairs and replacement.
  • Effective analytical skills and the ability to identify problems quickly.
  • Ability to read and understand automotive diagrams and reference manuals.
  • Experience and ability to use common hand and power tools.
  • Remain up-to-speed with industry developments and best practices impacting knowledge or skill by attending company-sponsored training and other educational programs.  
  • Must be able to read, write, and speak basic English.
  • Must be able to accurately process alpha/numeric information.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule.
  • Ability to work extended hours, weekends, holidays, as needed.
  • Ability to work with limited supervision and strong initiative.
  • Ability to obtain internal forklift certification within 90 days of employment.
  • Organizational and time management skills.
  • Strong communication skills (oral required; written preferred)
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to think logically and make sound decisions.
  • Must have or be able to obtain a TWIC card within 30 days of employment.
Preferred
  • Basic Electrical Certification.
  • Experience repairing, maintaining, and overhauling Cummins diesel engines.
  • Experienced diagnosing and troubleshooting Allison Transmissions.
 
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Primary
  • Full maintenance of the company’s fleet (i.e., vehicles, mules, forklifts, and top loaders). 
  • Inspect, analyze, test, measure, repair, and perform full or partial overhauls on any of the assemblies and sub-assemblies of heavy-duty Diesel engines and gas-powered equipment. Perform entire engine disassembly and reassembly (Inframe/Outframe) to restore the engine to pristine condition.
  • Determines vehicle condition by conducting inspections and diagnostic tests; identifying worn and damaged parts.
  • Corrects equipment deficiencies by removing, repairing, adjusting, overhauling, assembling, disassembling, and replacing major assemblies, sub-assemblies, components, parts, or systems, such as, power and drive trains, electrical, air conditioning, fuel, emission, brake, steering, hydraulics; completes machine shop operations; making adjustments and alignments including bearing loads, gear tooth contact, valve mechanisms, governors, oil systems, control linkages, clutches, and traction units.
  • Perform electric and hydraulic restoration.
  • Perform routine maintenance checks on diesel engines and on fuel, brake, and transmission systems to ensure peak performance, safety, and longevity of the equipment.
  • Maintain a clean work area, free of debris or safety hazards and maintain an awareness of surroundings (i.e. vehicles, equipment, etc.) at all times.
Secondary 
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
  • Perform bodywork and finish to the fleet as needed.
  • Repair and provide maintenance to the Liebherr cranes.  
 
SAFETY REQUIREMENTS:
  • Report safety hazards.
  • Immediately report incidents involving injury, illness, or property damage.
  • Wear appropriate PPE as instructed by the immediate supervisor.
  • Comply with all company safety policies, procedures, and rules.
  • Refuse any unsafe task or operation.
  • Participate in safety meetings and training.
  • Be constantly aware of their personal safety and that of their coworkers.
 
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED:
  • Receives direct supervision from the Power Mechanics Foreman and the Power Mechanics Manager. Does not exercise supervision over the Power Shop Department and/or any other department.
 
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Subject to physical and/or DOT Screening is required along with other tests as applicable.
  • The employee is continuously required to stand, walk, talk, grasp, use repetitive wrist motion, and eye-hand coordination.
  • The employee is frequently required to sit, climb, bend forward, squat, twist, reach forward, and pinch.
  • The employee must occasionally lift, carry, and/or push and pull up to 50 pounds. 
  • The employee must occasionally kneel, crawl, reach overhead, use repetitive foot motion and eye-hand-foot coordination.
  • The employee is frequently required to lift up to 5 lbs, carry up to 10 lbs, and push / pull up to 20 lbs.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
CONDITIONS:
  • The work is performed primarily in the shop/outdoors; exposed to all possible environmental factors      such as extreme heat, rain, wind and high humidity during day and night shifts.
  • The employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts.
  • The employee is occasionally exposed to dust, fumes, and airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to high.
  • The employee will experience moderate vibration though out hands and body when operating power tools and power industrial experience.
