Job description

SCHOOL DISTRICT OF MARION COUNTY, Ocala, Florida 
LEVEL/POSITION: DIESEL/GAS MECHANIC.
AREA(S): TRANSPORTATION POSITION.
SUMMARY: This is skilled work at the experienced worker level in preventative maintenance and complete repair of heavy duty trucks and equipment. An employee in a position allocated to this class performs skilled work in the application of standard trade practices. Work is performed under the direction and supervision of the assigned administrator and is subject to inspection.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: NOTE:

  • Repair, overhaul and perform adjustments to buses and equipment in accordance with State, Federal and Manufacturers specifications. 
  • Diagnosis of internal engine problems. 
  • Repair fuel injection systems and turbo chargers. 
  • Complete repair of front suspensions, drive lines and rear suspensions. 
  • Repair automatic and manual transmissions. 
  • Diagnosis and repair of electrical systems. 
  • Repair of air, hydraulic and disk brakes. 
  • Supervision of Trades and Services Helpers.
  • Perform related duties as assigned. 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: 
  • L-Light Work – Required to push, pull or lift up to 40 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects 

WORKING CONDITIONS: 
  • Indoors/Outdoors The worker is subject to both environmental conditions. Activities occur inside and outside. 

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS: 
  • Education - Graduation from standard high school or equivalency diploma (GED). Experience – Three (3) years of verifiable diesel/gas mechanic experience. 

Computer Skills: Basic understanding and knowledge of use of current technology, as required for the position.
