Job description

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Ensure that safety is always the number one priority at Alexandria Industries; promote and support a safe work environment and safety oriented culture by following all safety programs and guidelines
  • Research and/or analyze trends, temperature data, etc. from the extrusion improvement technician prior to making a correction on a die stack
  • Prepare and correct dies as needed for the extrusion process; knowing types of bolsters, backers, feeder plates, etc.
  • Learn and develop a strong understanding of the importance of temperature as it relates to the extrusion process and tooling
  • Provide internal customer service to all areas of the facility for extrusion related questions
  • Collaboratively make decisions with Die Shop Lead to determine if dies should be returned to die vendors for correction
  • Work with other departments in understanding and correcting die problems that may arise
  • Work with Die Shop Lead on the design and correction of dies at the time of order
  • Process necessary paperwork required for completing manufacturing orders
  • Keep work area clean and orderly using 5S (standardize, sustain, sort, set in order and shine)
  • Continuously cross-train within the Die Shop to grow and develop skills
  • Conduct all processes and procedures in accordance with department key measures
  • Ensure all quality practices are being followed accurately and efficiently
  • Read and analyze customer blueprint specifications to understand product requirements
  • Use necessary measurement equipment to ensure that parts extruded meet customer specifications; maintain proper and accurate test results records
  • Assist in data collection of the extrusion process to improve processes and procedures
  • Properly maintain and store dies and tooling based on department guidelines

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
  • High school diploma or equivalent degree
  • Associates degree in Machine Tool Technology or related program preferred

Experience:
  • 1+ years of blueprint reading and die correction experience preferred

Other required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Strong computer skills (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Ability to recognize safety concerns
  • Ability to utilize the proper inspection equipment per designated area
  • A highly motivated self-starter
  • Ability to read die drawings and inspect parts and surface finish according to customer specifications
  • Ability to effectively work in a team environment
  • Ability to take part in additional training or education as needed
  • Ability to perform and assist with preventive maintenance
  • Strong communication skills, problem solver, multi-tasker
  • Ability to properly identify materials
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent blueprint reading skills with a good understanding of geometric dimension and tolerance
  • Ability to effectively work under loose supervision
  • Ability to operate hand tools and various machines within the facility
