Tool and Die Maker — Progressive Stamping Dies

Location: York, PA
Shift: 2nd Shift
Pay: $24.00–$32.00/hr, plus 10% shift premium
Effective 2nd Shift Pay: Approximately $26.40–$35.20/hr

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Tool and Die Maker with strong knowledge of thin metal, high-speed progressive stamping dies and presses. This role is responsible for assembling, maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing, and setting up progressive stamping dies to support safe, efficient, and high-quality production.

The ideal candidate will have completed a state-approved Tool and Die Maker Apprenticeship or have at least 10 years of equivalent hands-on experience in tool and die work, preferably within a progressive stamping environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assemble, maintain, groom, troubleshoot, and repair progressive stamping dies in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Remove and install progressive stamping dies into presses, including die setup and press troubleshooting.
  • Work with thin metal, high-speed progressive stamping dies and presses.
  • Perform die maintenance, preventive maintenance, and repairs to support production needs.
  • Grind tooling and perform die alignment checks to ensure parts meet design specifications.
  • Inspect cutting stations and tooling alignment to identify wear, damage, or required adjustments.
  • Use quality assurance practices and metrology equipment to verify that finished parts meet applicable specifications.
  • Identify tooling issues or potential modifications needed from print and properly document changes.
  • Store and organize die tooling efficiently as tools are received or returned.
  • Record die maintenance and preventive maintenance activity in the die log book accurately and on time.
  • Complete all required documentation in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area using 5S housekeeping practices.

Shift Lead Responsibilities

  • Support shift operations by assigning workloads to operators.
  • Assist with leading the shift and helping ensure production priorities are met.
  • Train operators on proper procedures, safety expectations, and production requirements.
  • Communicate tooling, quality, or production concerns to the appropriate team members.

Required Qualifications

  • Completion of a state-approved Tool and Die Maker Apprenticeship or at least 10 years of equivalent experience.
  • Required experience working with thin metal, high-speed progressive stamping dies and presses.
  • Strong knowledge of progressive die setup, repair, troubleshooting, and maintenance.
  • Ability to remove, install, align, and troubleshoot dies in progressive stamping presses.
  • Experience using grinders, hand tools, precision measuring tools, and metrology equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret prints, specifications, and tooling documentation.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality and safety.
  • Ability to complete accurate maintenance records and production documentation.
  • Previous leadership, training, or shift lead experience is preferred.


Compensation

This position pays $24.00–$32.00 per hour, based on experience, plus a 10% shift premium for 2nd shift.

With the shift premium included, the effective pay range is approximately $26.40–$35.20 per hour.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate is a hands-on Tool and Die Maker who has direct experience with progressive stamping dies, understands how to troubleshoot tooling and press issues, and can help support a productive 2nd shift team. This person should be comfortable working independently, training operators, documenting die maintenance, and maintaining a safe, organized work area.
