Direct Supervisor: Paint Superintendent

Summary of Essential Job Duties & Responsibilities:

Paints surfaces using brushes, spray gun, or rollers.

Applies paint to simulate wood grain, marble, brick, or stonework.

Sands surfaces between coats and polishes final coat to specified finish.

Washes and treats surfaces with oil, turpentine, mildew remover, or other preparations.

Smooths surfaces using sandpaper, scrapers, brushes, steel wool, or sanding machine.

Mixes and matches colors of paint, stain, or varnish.

Fills cracks, holes, and joints with caulk putty, plaster, or other filler using caulking gun or putty knife.

Removes fixtures such as pictures and electric switch covers from walls prior to painting.

Covers surfaces with drop cloths or masking tape and paper to protect surface during painting.

Erects scaffolding or sets up ladders to work above ground level.

Reads work order or receives oral or written instructions from supervisor or customer.

Inquiries about proper labor method and efficiencies from crew or supervisor.

Asks clarification questions when necessary.

Keeps a running dialog with supervisor about project progress and issues on a daily basis

Performs routine crew duties effectively - on time cards - catalogs labor with accuracy and detailed description on daily basis without assistance or reminder

Inquiries on correct material use if unknown

Cleans and maintains equipment.

Complies with safe job-site conditions.

Shares responsibility for maintaining clean and secure work site.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

Ability to travel to out of town job sites

Education Requirements: High school diploma or equivalent. Relevant work experience may be substituted for education requirements.

Experience Requirements: 0-2 years as a Painter.

Tool Requirements: Applicants are required to have in their possession and maintain their own tools relevant to the job.

Physical Requirements: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job: good eye-hand coordination including usage of one or both left and right hands/arms to work bilaterally and/or independently to grasp, manipulate, or assemble objects; normal or correctable to normal vision and hearing; ability to kneel, crouch, climb, balance, crawl, bend, stretch, twist, reach, stand, sit and walk on frequent basis; ability to lift and carry up to 100 pounds on frequent basis. Knowledge of:

materials, methods, and appropriate tools to construct objects, structures, and buildings

principles and processes for providing customer service and evaluating customer satisfaction

design techniques, principles, tools, and instruments involved in the production and use of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models

machines and tools including their designs, uses, benefits, basic repair, and basic maintenance

the composition, structure, and properties of substances and of the chemical processes and transformations that they undergo including uses of chemicals and their interactions, danger signs, production techniques, and disposal methods

Skills:

determining kinds of tools and equipment needed to a job

inspecting and evaluation the quality of products

using mathematics to accurately perform calculations common to the construction industry

basic reading, writing, and communications skills in the English language

Abilities:

match or detect differences between colors including shades of color and brightness

exert muscle force repeatedly or continuously over time

multi-task and prioritize duties in a fast-paced environment

apply commonsense understanding to carry out oral and written instructions

take and follow directions and feedback

must have a valid driver's license and good driving record.

Work Environment: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job: occasional difficult public contact; frequent exposure to variety of weather conditions, vibration, noise, fumes, dust, and moving mechanical parts. Some travel may be required.
 

FLSA Status: This position is eligible for overtime pay.

Wages/Benefits: Successful applicant will be paid an hourly wage in the range of $18.00 to $25.00 with actual starting wage dependent on his/her qualifications, experience, and capabilities. Some benefits are available to full-time, regular employees after successful completion of the Introductory Period and these benefits will be explained at time of interview.
