Job description

Job Objective: Transport clients to appointments in a timely, kind and courteous manner and assist with food programs. Perform janitorial functions.
Essential Functions:
Dial-A-Ride Driver
  • Schedule and transport clients to their appointments promptly
  • Complete and maintain individual client records
  • Collect fees and turn in daily to corps officer office
  • Cleanliness and maintenance of van. Report van needs/repairs to corps officer
  • Answer cell phone and return calls as needed
  • Complete daily schedule form, including mileage and turn in daily
  • Record and complete monthly Salvation Army program statistics
  • Complete and maintain Dial-A-Ride vehicle maintenance log, daily vehicle checklist and other records as required
  • File reports and paperwork
  • Issue client fee receipts as needed
  • Handle emergencies as they arise
  • Operate Salvation Army vehicles for pick up/delivery and the transport of persons
  • Pick up food at Harvesters
  • Assist with monthly commodity distribution
  • Collect and deliver weekly food donations
  • Transport bell ringers to kettle sites during Christmas

Janitor
  • Sweep, mop, scrub and vacuum hallways, stairs, restrooms, classrooms and office space kitchen and dining area
  • Empty trash
  • Use basic hand tools to perform minor painting, plumbing, carpentry, electrical and other related maintenance activities
  • Inspect and notify management concerning needs for major repairs, safety or security issues
  • Advise direct supervisor of janitorial and building supply needs
  • Provide routine outside maintenance. Assist with cleaning snow and debris from sidewalks. Follow schedule for cleaning windows, furniture, floor polishing, etc.
  • Set up furniture for meetings as required

General
  • May direct work activities of volunteers or community service personnel
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:
Education: High School diploma or equivalent
Experience: Transportation and custodial experience; working with senior citizens and disabled individuals
Certifications/Licenses: Class E driver's license or above
Skills/Abilities:
  • Detail oriented
  • Ability to organize and carry out work plan with minimum supervision
  • Good communication and time management skills
  • Sound judgment, problem solving and conflict resolution skills
  • Ability to handle multiple demands and priorities.
  • Must possess strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to use office equipment including telephone, personal computer and copier
  • Must be supportive of The Salvation Army mission

Supervisory Responsibility: None
Physical Requirements: Include speaking, hearing and vision; manual dexterity; standing, walking, bending, squatting, reaching, climbing; lifting, pulling and pushing of materials up to 50 pounds. Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals to perform the essential functions of this job.
Travel: None
Driving: Yes. Must possess a valid class E driver's license (or above) from the state of residence. Must be approved through The Salvation Army Fleet Safety Program to drive a Salvation Army vehicle on Salvation Army business.
