To thrive as a Remote DevOps Engineer, you need strong skills in software development, infrastructure management, automation, and a solid understanding of cloud platforms, often backed by a relevant degree or certifications like AWS Certified DevOps Engineer. Familiarity with tools such as Jenkins, Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform, and CI/CD pipelines is typically required. Excellent problem-solving, collaboration, and communication skills are crucial, especially when working remotely with distributed teams. These skills and qualities are essential for ensuring seamless deployment, system reliability, and effective teamwork in dynamic, cloud-based environments.

How does a remote DevOps Engineer typically collaborate with development and IT teams?

As a remote DevOps Engineer, collaboration is often achieved through a mix of communication tools like Slack, Jira, and video conferencing platforms. You'll participate in regular stand-ups, planning meetings, and code reviews to stay aligned with both development and IT operations teams. Effective documentation and clear communication are essential, as you'll often troubleshoot issues or update CI/CD pipelines asynchronously. Remote DevOps Engineers also frequently use shared dashboards and monitoring tools to ensure transparency and rapid response to incidents.

What Is the Job of a Remote DevOps Engineer?

As a remote DevOps engineer, you help manage the development of software for use on a company network system. In this role, you work from home using the phone, email, video chat, or other methods of communication to stay in touch with other developers and users throughout the lifecycle of each product. You typically work with a team to ensure rapid and consistent development. This is a relatively new term, but in general, DevOps focuses on having operations and development engineers participate in a full-service lifecycle to help support end-users and ensure the software becomes the best possible product.

What are DevOps Engineers (Remote)?

DevOps Engineers (Remote) are IT professionals who collaborate with development and operations teams to automate, streamline, and improve software development and deployment processes from remote locations. They focus on integrating code, managing infrastructure, monitoring systems, and ensuring continuous integration and delivery (CI/CD) pipelines are efficient and reliable. Working remotely, they use cloud-based tools and platforms to manage servers, deploy applications, and maintain high system reliability without being physically present in an office. Their role is crucial in accelerating development cycles, reducing errors, and ensuring seamless collaboration between dispersed teams.

Job description

IT Labs – Senior Azure Cloud DevOps Engineer

At IT Labs, we are looking for a hands-on Senior Azure Cloud DevOps Engineer to support one of the most innovative companies in the digital health space.

Our client is transforming the way healthcare is delivered, paid for, and experienced. They operate a technology-driven platform that connects employers and patients with top-tier medical providers through a Centers of Excellence model — helping eliminate surprise bills, reduce costs, and improve patient outcomes at scale. Their platform is backed by significant venture funding, has been validated by independent research institutions, and is recognized as a case study in top-tier business education. They serve a large portion of the US population and continue to grow their reach across the country.

In this role, you will be the bridge between development and operations — leading infrastructure projects end-to-end, from problem definition and technical design through implementation, rollout, documentation, and operational ownership. You will play a key role in modernizing cloud architecture and building a scalable, compliant Azure foundation to support future enterprise growth.

This role is best suited for someone who takes ownership, writes great documentation, thrives in collaborative cross-functional environments, and is as motivated by identifying problems as by solving them.

What You\'ll Do
  • Lead infrastructure projects end-to-end: from problem definition and technical design through ticket creation, implementation, rollout, and documentation

  • Design and implement best-practice Infrastructure as Code (IaC) solutions

  • Automate the deployment, scaling, and management of application infrastructure

  • Maintain and optimize cloud systems to meet business and compliance requirements

  • Lead incident response and root cause analysis to ensure fast resolution and long-term prevention

  • Integrate security best practices into the infrastructure lifecycle to ensure compliance with data protection regulations

  • Collaborate with stakeholders across engineering and product teams to understand needs and communicate progress

  • Write comprehensive documentation of technical procedures, configurations, and deployed solution architectures

  • Work cross-functionally to identify where infrastructure automation and cloud solutions can solve real problems

  • At times, create and own your own tickets and backlog items

Required Skills
  • 7+ years of experience with cloud infrastructure, CI/CD pipelines, and/or site reliability engineering

  • 5+ years of experience with container orchestration tools (e.g. AKS, EKS) including deployment models and monitoring/observability

  • Expertise in launching full-stack applications and data ecosystems leveraging:

    • GitHub Actions

    • Azure Terraform Modules

    • Azure Landing Zones

    • Azure Networking

    • Azure App Insights

    • Azure Front Door

    • Azure PaaS / PLDMC Services

    • Azure Data Factory

  • Proven experience scaling platforms on Azure with a strong understanding of reference architectures

  • Expertise in implementing DevOps culture and fostering collaboration between development and operations teams

  • Experience designing monitoring solutions for cloud infrastructure management

  • Experience optimizing system reliability, scalability, and performance through DevOps methodologies

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills — able to work with stakeholders and convey technical progress clearly

  • Comfortable sharing recommendations with team members and leadership

Nice to Have
  • Experience in the healthcare or health-tech space

  • Preferred certifications (valid and verifiable):

    • AZ-400: Microsoft Certified – DevOps Engineer Expert

    • Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA)

    • Certified Kubernetes Application Developer (CKAD)

    • Docker Certified Associate

    • HashiCorp Terraform Associate

    • Security certifications related to Kubernetes, Terraform, or cloud technologies

  • Familiarity with monitoring tools such as New Relic, Datadog, or CloudWatch

Working Conditions
  • Full-time, 40h/week

  • Remote

  • Contract or B2B arrangement
