Job description

APS Security Systems is seeking an experienced, dependable Fire Alarm Technician to join our commercial low-voltage and life-safety team in Miami, Florida.

This position performs installation, programming support, testing, troubleshooting, inspection, repair, and service of commercial fire alarm systems. The ideal technician understands fire alarm field wiring, addressable devices, notification circuits, control panels, drawings, basic code requirements, and the importance of accurate documentation and life-safety compliance.

There may also be opportunities to work on prevailing-wage / Davis-Bacon projects throughout the year. Employees assigned to covered projects will be paid according to the applicable wage determination, work classification, and fringe-benefit requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Install, terminate, label, test, troubleshoot, repair, and service commercial fire alarm systems.
  • Read and follow fire alarm plans, riser diagrams, wiring diagrams, device schedules, sequence-of-operations documents, and manufacturer installation instructions.
  • Assist with programming, point verification, system commissioning, acceptance testing, and fire-marshal inspections.
  • Troubleshoot ground faults, opens, shorts, communication troubles, power-supply faults, SLC/NAC issues, device troubles, and supervisory/alarm conditions.
  • Perform inspection, testing, maintenance, and service work in accordance with applicable project requirements, manufacturer requirements, and NFPA 72 procedures.
  • Complete inspection reports, service tickets, deficiency reports, daily logs, device-test records, and redline/as-built markups accurately.
  • Maintain a clean work area, protect finished spaces, follow jobsite safety requirements, and represent APS professionally at all customer sites.

Qualifications

Minimum 3 years of commercial fire alarm installation, service, inspection, or troubleshooting experience preferred.
