PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)
In the Department of Developmental Services this class is accountable for acting as a working lead or as a backup to the Supervising Developmental Services Worker in the shift supervision of a work location.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
\r\n\r\n Leads Developmental Services Workers on an assigned shift in implementation of residential living program for individuals in a cottage, wing or other living quarter;\r\n Oversees and may participate in general care of assigned living quarters and care, feeding, clothing and treatment of individuals;\r\n Directs and advises staff on implementation of individuals daily teaching strategies;\r\n Assists in evaluating performance of residential program within living quarters;\r\n Confers daily with staff on routine operational, disciplinary and special problems;\r\n Implements policies, programs and operational procedures in accordance with state and federal regulations and with regard to needs of individuals;\r\n Participates in caring for and instruction of individuals in their activities of daily living;\r\n Confers with parents concerning individuals status;\r\n May administer selected oral medications with appropriate training;\r\n May complete a variety of reports, notes, logs, requisitions, etc.;\r\n May design and write residential living programs;\r\n May provide orientation and in-service training to subordinate staff;\r\n May order, secure and distribute supplies and equipment for program functioning and individuals personal needs;\r\n May attend interdisciplinary team meetings;\r\n May arrange for appropriate support services such as housekeeping, maintenance and laundry;\r\n May administer first aid in emergency situations;\r\n May drive individuals to necessary appointments/outings;\r\n May serve as backup for Supervising Developmental Services Worker;\r\n Performs related duties as required.\r\n\r\n\r\n
KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY
\r\n Considerable knowledge of modern methods of working with individuals with an intellectual disability or other developmental disabilities;\r\n Knowledge of\r\n \r\n rehabilitative and interdisciplinary process;\r\n goals, policies and organization of a residential living unit;\r\n safety, fire and first aid procedures;\r\n \r\n \r\n Considerable\r\n \r\n interpersonal skills;\r\n oral and written communication skills;\r\n \r\n \r\n Ability to\r\n \r\n implement policies and operational procedures;\r\n lead staff.\r\n \r\n \r\n\r\n
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - GENERAL EXPERIENCE
One (1) year of experience working with individuals with an intellectual disability or other developmental disabilities at the level of a Developmental Services Worker 2.\r\n
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
\r\n\r\n Hold a Medication Administration Certification\r\n Experience communicating internally and externally with team members and community providers both over the telephone and in written inquiries.\r\n Experience using Microsoft applications, including Outlook, Excel, Teams, and Word.\r\n Experience working with non-verbal individuals with intellectual disabilities.\r\n Experience supporting individuals that may exhibit severe challenging behaviors.\r\n Experience supervising staff in supportive roles.\r\n\r\n\r\n
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
\r\n Incumbents in this class may be required to be bilingual or fluent in American Sign Language.\r\n Incumbents in this class may be required to possess and retain a valid Connecticut Motor Vehicle Operator's license, Public Passenger Endorsement or Commercial Driver's license for designated positions.\r\n Incumbents in this class may be required to travel.\r\n\r\n
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Incumbents in this class must possess physical and emotional health for efficient performance of duties. Applicants may be required to take a physical examination.
