Developmental Disability information

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Developmental Disability Specialist, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Developmental Disability Specialist, you need a background in psychology, social work, or special education, often supported by a relevant bachelor's or master's degree and, in some cases, state licensure. Familiarity with individualized service plans (ISPs), case management software, and documentation standards is typically required. Compassion, patience, strong communication, and problem-solving skills help professionals build trust and advocate effectively for clients. These competencies ensure high-quality support, enable effective care coordination, and improve the quality of life for individuals with developmental disabilities.

What are some common challenges faced by professionals working with individuals with developmental disabilities, and how can they be addressed?

Professionals working with individuals with developmental disabilities often encounter challenges such as communication barriers, behavioral issues, and the need to tailor support to each person's unique abilities. Addressing these challenges requires patience, creativity, and strong collaboration with multidisciplinary teams, including therapists, educators, and family members. Building trust and using individualized strategies, such as visual aids or assistive technology, can greatly enhance both communication and overall support.

What are developmental disabilities?

Developmental disabilities are a group of conditions that originate during the developmental period, typically before the age of 22, and cause physical, learning, language, or behavioral impairments. These disabilities can include autism spectrum disorder, cerebral palsy, intellectual disabilities, and Down syndrome, among others. They may affect daily functioning and often require lifelong support and services. The severity and type of support needed can vary greatly from person to person.

Job description

About Axya

Axya is transforming the manufacturing industry by revolutionizing the source-to-pay process through cutting-edge technology. Our innovative SaaS platform streamlines and automates procurement for custom parts, helping manufacturers operate with greater speed, efficiency, and competitiveness.

We're proud to foster an inclusive, collaborative, and growth-oriented work environment. At Axya, you'll work alongside passionate, forward-thinking professionals and directly contribute to modernizing procurement in one of the world's most vital industries.

Role Overview

As a Business Development Representative (BDR), you'll be at the forefront of Axya's growth. Your mission: to identify, engage, and qualify potential customers, helping manufacturers discover how Axya can transform their procurement process.

You'll generate new opportunities through targeted outbound outreach, collaborate closely with our sales and marketing teams, and play a key role in building a strong pipeline of qualified leads.

This position is ideal for a self-driven professional with experience in SaaS sales, especially within manufacturing, procurement, or supply chain, who thrives in a fast-paced, results-oriented environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prospect & Engage: Conduct outbound calls and emails to introduce Axya's platform and uncover customer needs.
  • Qualify Leads: Identify decision-makers, assess fit, and ensure a strong handoff to the sales team.
  • Collaborate: Work closely with Account Executives and Marketing to refine targeting strategies and campaign messaging.
  • Pipeline Management: Maintain accurate CRM records (HubSpot) and track all sales activities diligently.
  • Exceed Targets: Consistently achieve and surpass weekly/monthly goals for qualified meetings.
  • Market Intelligence: Stay informed on industry trends, competitor offerings, and customer pain points to effectively position Axya's value.
  • Feedback Loop: Share insights from prospect interactions to help shape sales strategies, product improvements, and marketing campaigns.

What We're Looking For

  • Proven experience in SaaS sales, ideally within manufacturing, procurement, or ERP solutions.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to clearly articulate value propositions.
  • Strong phone presence and confidence in outbound prospecting.
  • Comfortable working in a high-energy, goal-driven environment.
  • Proficiency with CRM tools (HubSpot) and familiarity with sales automation platforms.
  • Knowledge of procurement processes, supply chain, or manufacturing workflows is a strong asset.
  • Highly motivated, coachable, and thrives in a team-first culture.

Why Join Axya

  • Unlimited vacation policy: because we believe in balance.
  • Comprehensive health insurance: your well-being matters.
  • Flexible work schedule: results matter more than hours.
  • 100% remote: get the job done wherever you prefer.
  • Be part of a high-impact, collaborative team making real change in a traditional industry.

Axya is an equal opportunity employer. We're committed to building a diverse and inclusive workplace and strongly encourage applications from people of all backgrounds, including Indigenous peoples, persons with disabilities, visible minorities, and women.
