Transmission Planning Operations Engineer - Major Capital T&D Operations
Austin, TX area - Hybrid Work Schedule & Relocation Assistance Available
A Transmission & Distribution Company with wide scale electrical utility infrastructure operations across Texas is going through a transformational growth phase that includes the addition of a Transmission Planning Operations Engineer.
This role will drive design, construction, and analysis of the organizations' transmission and electrical power systems with a key focus on power flow modeling and system performance. It will lead high voltage transmission interconnection projects involving generating plants, substations, and/or transmissions installation.

The scope of their operations includes transmission (t-line), regional control centers, and distribution systems with interconnects to various renewable energy technology platforms.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Transmission Planning Ops Engineer / Market Operations Engineer - Perform power-flow, short-circuit, and stability studies of the transmission systems
  • Transmission Planning Ops Engineer / Market Operations Engineer - Perform studies required to ensure compliance with NERC, ERCOT, and PUCT Reliability Standards and Transmission Planning Criteria
  • Transmission Planning Ops Engineer / Market Operations Engineer - Utilize accepted analytical tools such as PSS/E to perform power-flow analysis of transmission system
  • Transmission Planning Ops Engineer / Market Operations Engineer - Complete calculations in development and maintenance of Transmission Equipment
  • Transmission Planning Ops Engineer / Market Operations Engineer - Work with design and engineering groups/consultants on required small/large Transmission Planning projects
  • Transmission Planning Ops Engineer / Market Operations Engineer - leads project development initiatives including the facilitation of transmission analytics for active projects
  • Develops, reviews, and maintains the company's Transmission Planning Assessment for review with the Exec Leadership Team

General Experience Requirements:
  • Bachelors Degree in Engineering preferably Electrical Engineering or Power Systems Engineering
  • Power flow modeling experience with PSS/E, PSLF, PSCAD, or ASPEN
  • Well versed in real-time transmission operations and/or transmission market operations engineering
  • Hands-on experience with PUCT CCN and ERCOT Regional Planning Group processes
  • Understanding of electricity market policy and rules with respect to interconnection and transmission planning
  • Experience working with ISOs (independent system operator) and/or RTOs (regional transmission organization)
  • Power systems background including a thorough understand of transmission planning and NERC reliability standards
  • An understanding of the planning processes within utilities and RTOs/ISOs
  • Previous experience working as a Transmission Planning Operations Engineer, Operations Engineer, Transmission Market Engineer Transmission Engineer, Electrical Engineer, or Power Systems Engineer
