The (Sr)Associate - Sequencing Strategy & Operations role provides critical operational, analytical, and tactical support to advance Tempus' precision medicine and Life Science Sequencing/CDx initiatives. The position is responsible for conducting market and competitive intelligence research, executing commercial marketing logistics, and helping draft client proposals alongside the business development team. Additionally, the role coordinates commercial operations across internal teams to improve daily processes and successfully bring new offerings to market.
Location: Hybrid in Chicago or NY
Key Responsibilities
  • Support Tempus' business development (BD) team in developing partnership opportunities with key biopharma and academic research accounts to advance client conversations.
  • Draft and refine client-facing proposals, contracts, and written communications for the Life Science Sequencing/CDx business, working closely with the BD team to align materials with customer needs.
  • Execute commercial marketing activities for the team, including organizing nurture campaigns, managing conference/webinar planning logistics, developing collateral, and maintaining website content.
  • Source biotech and research customer targets by systematically researching companies, institutions, contacts, assets, and pipeline areas of interest.
  • Conduct strategic and market analysis using pharma and competitive intelligence to support the identification of key differentiators and the refinement of marketing materials.
  • Work collaboratively across commercial, medical, product, regulatory, and laboratory teams to help implement go-to-market strategies.
  • Identify opportunities to improve operational processes for customer engagement, outreach, retention tactics, and track team KPI fulfillment.
  • Partner with Operations, Account Management, Product & Engineering to report daily operational challenges, gather data for product enhancements, and assist in testing new features.
  • Coordinate and maintain positive working relationships with operational stakeholders across partner organizations.
  • Manage the tracking, documentation, and cross-functional execution of operational milestones for key strategic projects to help bring new offerings to market successfully.

Qualifications
  • 2+ years of pharma, biotech, or consulting experience with a track record of strong execution.
  • Customer-facing experience, preferably in BD, client services, or consulting.
  • Strong written communication skills, with experience drafting client-facing materials or proposals.
  • Comfort operating in a fast-paced, ambiguous environment, managing shifting priorities and incomplete information across multiple concurrent projects.

Preferred:
  • Exposure to oncology, diagnostics, CDx, NGS, or multi-omics a plus, but not required.
  • B.S./M.S. in a life sciences field a plus, not required.

Associate level in CHI: $70,000 - $85,000
The expected salary range may vary for other locations. Actual salary may vary based on qualifications and experience. Tempus offers a full range of benefits, which may include incentive compensation, restricted stock units, medical and other benefits depending on the position.
