Job description

Join Sellenโ€™s Team. Come Build with Us.Senior Director of Business Development & Marketing

Sellen Construction is one of the Pacific Northwest's most respected general contractors, a company with deep roots in Seattle, an unapologetic commitment to quality, and a legacy of giving back to the communities we build in. We build healthcare facilities that heal, commercial spaces that inspire, and jewel-box projects that are the pride and joy of the neighborhood. From the iconic Amazon Spheres to the complexity of Seattle Children's Hospital, the inspiring temples and performing arts spaces - we are the builder who serves our city and are nationally recognized for the work we do.

We are looking for a senior leader who is equal parts strategist, storyteller, and competitor. Someone who will serve as a true right hand to the Chief Strategy Officer and a driving force behind Sellen's growth. The Senior Director of Business Development & Marketing holds a seat at the senior leadership table with a mandate to shape how Sellen competes, how we show up in the market, and how we tell our story.

Sellen's brand and marketing functions have significant runway. The person who takes this role will inherit strong foundations: relationships, reputation, and a pipeline of consequential pursuits - and a clear directive: raise the bar. You must bring creative vision, push our thinking, and hold the standard relentlessly. If you do your best work when you have both the authority to lead and a strategic partner who will challenge you, this role was built for you.

Your Qualifications
  • 10+ years of progressive business development and marketing leadership experience, preferably in the A/E/C industries or a similarly complex, relationship-driven sector.
  • A Bachelor's Degree in Business, Marketing, Communications, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated success in securing significant contracts and building market position through strategic prepositioning and client relationship development.
  • Experience managing a team with diverse talents (design, communication, marketing strategy) and the ability to bring out the best in individuals and the team.
  • Comparable combinations of education and experience will be considered.
Knowledge
  • Deep knowledge of business development, marketing, and pursuit strategies in the construction or professional services industry.
  • Proficiency with CRM platforms (Salesforce) with the ability to define strategy and partner with technology teams to optimize systems.
  • Strong understanding of market dynamics, client procurement processes, and competitive positioning in the PNW and broader AEC market.
Skills
  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills; a natural storyteller who can craft compelling narratives for diverse audiences.
  • Proven ability to facilitate strategy sessions and executive-level presentations with credibility and confidence.
  • Strong analytical skills; able to translate market data, CRM intelligence, and client feedback into strategic action.
  • Creative thinker with the energy and initiative to develop campaigns, events, and programs that break through the noise.
  • Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to lead multiple priorities and deadlines simultaneously.
Abilities
  • Work with a high degree of independence; proactively identify opportunities and lead solutions without waiting to be directed.
  • Command a room with poise, professionalism, and genuine warmth - whether in a boardroom, a kick-off meeting, or a community event.
  • Thrive in a fast-paced, competitive environment where results matter and accountability is personal.
  • Build authentic, enduring relationships with clients, partners, and community leaders.

The full annual salary range for this position is$185,000 to $245,000. New hires typically start between $185,000 and $215,000, depending on direct professional experience and qualifications. Sellen's bonus plan is funded based on company performance and awarded based on individual performance. The bonus target for this role is 10% of salary. Learn more about Sellen's Fair Pay Workplace certification, our bonus plan, and other rewards and benefit programs here.
