Laboratory Operations Technician

Part-Time Contractor Waltham, MA

Summary:

Visterra is seeking a part-time Laboratory Operations Technician contractor to support routine daily laboratory operations. This individual will report to the Sr. Manager of Lab Operations and help keep the research facility running smoothly by handling package logistics, supply stocking, waste management, and other recurring support tasks. Success in this role comes from reliability and consistency, not technical expertise. The ideal candidate takes ownership of a defined set of tasks, works independently with minimal supervision, and takes satisfaction in keeping a busy lab environment organized and running efficiently.

This is a part-time contractor position working approximately 15-20 hours per week across a consistent, agreed-upon schedule at Visterra's Research and Development Lab in Waltham, MA. No prior laboratory experience is required; full training is provided.

Key duties and responsibilities:

  • Manage biohazardous waste and sharps disposal, including collecting full containers, assembling replacement boxes, and maintaining compliant waste stations (training provided)
  • Stock laboratory supplies to support research activities
  • Collect incoming packages from the loading dock and promptly notify researchers
  • Assist with glassware washing and sterilization
  • Support general lab organization, including periodic clean-outs of bench and storage areas
  • Wipe down shared equipment and common lab surfaces on a routine basis
  • Perform additional job-related duties as required

Minimum Qualifications

  • A high school diploma or equivalent
  • Ability to independently execute a defined set of recurring tasks after training, methodically working through responsibilities and completing them within a given shift
  • Dependable and proactive in flagging issues or delays to the appropriate team members(s)
  • Work is performed on-site in an active lab environment; this is a physical role requiring regular movement, standing for extended periods, and lifting to 50 lbs
  • Self-motivated, organized, and takes pride in doing routine work well

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in a laboratory, facilities, custodial, warehouse, or other operational support role
  • Seeking a stable, part-time schedule with consistent hours and well-defined responsibilities
