Job description

The Academic Advising Centre helps undergraduate students in the Faculties of Humanities, Science and Social Sciences at the university navigate and ensure that their graduation requirements are complete, whether they are newly-admitted, first-year or current undergraduates. The Coordinator, Frontline Advising supervises a small team (CUPE) of Frontline Advisers and the Administrative Assistant to the Associate Dean. The Coordinator, Frontline Advising is a subject matter expert for supporting students accessing Frontline services.

The Coordinator, Frontline Advising is responsible for ensuring the Academic Advising Centre develops, delivers, and manages programs that support students in the faculties of Humanities, Science and Social Sciences, as well as targeted student retention initiatives. This role supports the work of Academic Advising by applying Council for Advancement of Standards (CAS Standards) and contemporary student development theory to build innovative curriculum for on-campus student academic success programs and initiatives. The Coordinator, Frontline Advising maintains an advising caseload.

They actively consult with students using a developmental approach to provide information, referrals and advice that will support students' planning and decision-making as it relates to their degree and life choices and with a focus on increasing student's skills and developing a shared understanding of the student's, Academic Adviser's and University's responsibilities. The day-to-day work of the Coordinator, Frontline Advising includes responding to a broad range of queries from students, parents, faculty and staff, including telephone and email advising inquiries. In addition to providing services, the Coordinator, Frontline Advising is responsible for a medium-sized portfolio of Advising-related administration.

As a result of the nature of the duties and responsibilities of this position, occasional evening and weekend work may be required.The Coordinator, Frontline Advising has earned a Degree in a related discipline in Humanities, Science or Social Sciences, or in Education that is appropriate for a leadership role within Academic Advising. The Coordinator, Frontline Advising has 2 years of direct experience in a higher education setting with specific experiences in academic advising, including responsibility for managing special projects; responsibility related to frontline advising; experience supervising or leading professionals and administrative staff. The Coordinator, Frontline Advising will appreciate and embrace the value and role of Student Services/Student Affairs in higher education and will work with multiple campus stakeholders through strong collaboration and proactive initiatives
