About Studio East

Studio East works to create confident, compassionate, responsible young people through training in the art and craft of theater. We believe theater is a transformative, cultural force that develops valuable skills children can use throughout their lives - discipline, resilience, dependability, creative problem solving, teamwork - regardless of their eventual chosen vocation.

Studio East Training for the Performing Arts (Studio East) is based in Kirkland, WA, and began as a single teen theatre training program in 1992. The studioโ€™s programming has since then expanded to include a full season of Mainstage youth performances, several "kids" performances featuring a younger cast, and theatre arts camps and classes. Studio East now provides best-in-class theatre education, performance skills, and audience opportunities to inspire, train, and entertain young people through engagement in the art and craft of theatre.

In 1998, Studio East created StoryBook Theatre (SBT), a professional touring production of interactive musical theatre written for young children and their families with the primary goal of introducing very young audiences to the magic and wonder of live musical theater. Each season, SBT brings live theatre to dozens of schools and outdoor parks throughout the Puget Sound.

Between the studioโ€™s Mainstage season, camps and classes, and StoryBook Theater, Studio East serves over 70,000 people and provides theatre education opportunities for over 6,500 students ages 3-19 annually.
