The Communications Manager is a part of the internal communications team in support of Hartford HealthCare's Fairfield Region. Responsible for leading internal communication efforts that engage, inform, and inspire colleagues across a diverse health system. The Communications Manager also supports executive communication, social media storytelling, and media relations in partnership with the broader marketing and communications team.
This role partners with senior leaders to craft executive messaging and enhance visibility, while also collaborating on social media storytelling and media relations to amplify internal narratives externally. Additionally, the manager monitors communication performance through defined KPIs and contributes to strategic planning and reporting to ensure effectiveness across all channels.
Internal Communications
  • Develop and implement internal communication strategies aligned with enterprise priorities and the health system's People Promise.
  • Manage content creation and distribution across internal channels (e.g., intranet, newsletters, mobile app, digital signage, huddles).
  • Collaborate with regional and clinical communication leads to ensure consistent, localized messaging.
  • Support change communication initiatives and employee engagement campaigns.
Executive Communication
  • Partner with senior leaders to craft clear, authentic, and strategic messages that align with organizational goals.
  • Develop executive communication toolkits, talking points, and presentation materials.
  • Support the planning and execution of executive visibility efforts, including town halls, leader forums, and video messages.
  • Help define and reinforce the executive voice across internal and external platforms.
Social Media & Media Relations (in partnership with Social/Digital Team)
  • Identify and elevate employee stories and internal initiatives for external amplification.
  • Draft and coordinate social media content that reflects internal culture and strategic priorities.
  • Collaborate on the development of high-quality video content that highlights organizational values, showcases employee experiences, and supports strategic initiatives across digital platforms.
  • Support media relations efforts by preparing internal messaging, FAQs, and talking points.
  • Monitor social and media channels for sentiment and opportunities to reinforce internal narratives externally.
Measurement & Strategy
  • Track and analyze communication performance using defined KPIs (e.g., open rates, engagement, feedback).
  • Contribute to quarterly and annual reporting on communication effectiveness.
  • Participate in planning cadences (weekly, monthly, quarterly) to align with internal and external communication teams.

Qualifications:
Education:
  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, or related field.
Experience:
  • 5+ years of experience in internal communications, corporate communications, or related roles. Strong writing, editing, and storytelling skills across formats and channels.
  • Experience supporting or advising senior leaders on communication strategy and delivery.
  • Familiarity with digital communication tools (e.g., SharePoint, Poppulo, Teams, social media platforms).
  • Ability to work cross-functionally
  • Experience in healthcare, large matrixed organizations, or unionized environments. Knowledge of LEAN principles or change management frameworks strongly preferred
