Development & Communications Manager

About the Role

Reporting to the Executive Director of our Houston site, the Development & Communications Manager leads local fundraising, marketing, and community engagement efforts that sustain critical services for veterans and their families. You’ll work closely with national development leadership while serving as the primary driver of site-based donor relationships and community partnerships.

This is an exciting opportunity for a fundraising professional who enjoys balancing strategy, storytelling, and hands-on execution in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment.

What You’ll Do

Fundraising & Community Engagement

  • Lead site fundraising initiatives to exceed annual goals of approximately $875K–$900K.
  • Build and steward relationships with individual donors, corporate partners, and community organizations.
  • Plan and execute signature fundraising events and sponsorship campaigns.
  • Collaborate with national development leadership on integrated fundraising strategies.
  • Represent the organization in the community through presentations, partnerships, and volunteer engagement.
  • Track donor engagement and fundraising activity using various donor databases

Communications & Marketing

  • Manage local marketing, social media, and public relations efforts.
  • Share compelling client success stories and mission-focused content.
  • Maintain fundraising and communications calendars and develop branded materials.

The Ideal Candidate

You are a mission-driven fundraiser who enjoys building authentic relationships and turning community engagement into meaningful impact. You are both strategic and hands-on, comfortable managing multiple projects while meeting ambitious fundraising goals.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred or equivalent experience
  • 3–5 years of nonprofit fundraising experience, including events, corporate, and individual giving
  • Demonstrated success securing donor investments and sponsorships
  • Strong communication, presentation, and relationship-building skills
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines
  • Experience with donor databases (Blackbaud preferred) and Microsoft Office
