Job description

The Business Development Consultant drives growth by identifying new business opportunities and promoting our products and services to prospective commercial clients. The role requires strong sales and communication skills, along with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment. Responsibilities include lead generation, sales presentations, negotiating terms, managing lead opportunities through CRM, and collaborating with internal teams to meet sales targets and ensure high customer satisfaction. Success is measured by achieving new business sales targets through consistent prospecting, pipeline development, and the acquisition of new commercial customers.
This is a remote position but will be required to come to our Westminster, Maryland office for training and occasional meetings.
$110k-$135k+ annually (base plus earned commissions)
Responsibilities
  • Proactively identify and develop opportunities with prospective Commercial customers through outreach activities, such as cold calling, networking, and community engagement.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for prospective customers, building strong relationships, identifying value opportunities, maintaining proactive communication, and ensuring a seamless customer experience throughout the onboarding of the account.
  • Conduct sales calls on potential Commercial fuel prospects
  • Maintain a comprehensive understanding of and answer questions about the company and offered products, services, and availability
  • Participate in initial and ongoing sales training programs, including Sandler Sales Training, to develop effective sales techniques and strategies.
  • Follow Tevis' problem-centric sales process:
    • Diagnose compelling reasons for doing business with Tevis (pain points)
    • Uncover the budget customer is willing and/or able to invest into solutions (budget)
    • Present solutions promoting Tevis products and services
  • Communicate accurately and timely with the operations team to prepare and deliver on all new customer sales orders
  • Negotiate terms, pricing, and all aspects of fuel supply options with prospective clients and prepare sales agreements
  • Preparing and executing sales presentations to a range of prospective clients
  • Coordinating sales efforts with marketing programs
  • Supporting credit department, as needed, with facilitating payment collection
  • Ensure customer has all necessary contact points for future communications with Tevis to ensure operational continuity, transitioning accounts to our account management team within one year
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date customer records in the CRM, including contact information, customer interactions, sales activities, and follow-up actions, ensuring consistent communication, relationship development, and proper documentation of sales efforts.

Requirements
  • Associates or bachelor's degree in energy, business, marketing, accounting/economics or another business-related field preferred
  • 2 years of sales and/or industry experience preferred
  • A commitment to excellent customer service
  • Proficient in computer technology including Word, Excel, Access and Outlook
  • Excellent written and verbal skills
  • Superb interpersonal skills, including the ability to quickly build rapport with both customers (internal & external) and suppliers
  • Strong math and critical thinking skills
  • Ability to work comfortably in a flexible and fast-paced environment
