Job description

POSITION SUMMARY: The Development & Communications Associate supports the organization's fundraising, grant management, and communications efforts. This position is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Development Office, providing administrative support to the Director of Development to ensure efficient departmental operations.ย  The Associate also supports the Foundation & Grants Officer by assisting with private and government grant administration, including tracking deadlines, preparing materials, and maintaining grant records. In addition, the Associate assists with communications and marketing initiatives, including email marketing, social media, website updates, and the creation of communication materials to increase awareness and engagement.

DEVELOPMENT RESPONSIBILITIES:ย 

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย  Manage the Development Office database Raiser's Edge, update records and pull reports when needed.

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย  Coordinate and process all gift acknowledgement letters.

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย  Assist the Foundation and Grants Manager with processing of all private and government grants in Raisers Edge, manage tracking of actions, editing/sending reports and set up funder meetings.

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย  Support Annual Fund and Special Events Managers.

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย  Coordinate and manage all office volunteers.

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย  Keep concise rosters on Board and Board Committees.

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย  Schedule, compile meeting packets, and minutes for Board Meetings, Development, and Nominating & Governance Committees

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย  Work closely with Board of Directors and volunteers.

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย  Assist with the Board, fundraising, and community outreach events.

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย  Assist with Communications tasks such as social media and email marketing.

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย  Answer office phones, including front desk coverage.

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย  Other tasks as assigned.

ย 

ย EDUCATION:ย 

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย  Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.

ย EXPERIENCE:ย  1-3 years development or communications experience. Experience and ability in motivating and mobilizing volunteers, staff and board.ย  Database experience a plus.ย 

ย SKILLS:ย 

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย  Strong organizational, administration, telephone and interpersonal communication skills, detail and "big picture" orientated.

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย  Detailed orientated. Comfortable managing multiple tasks at one time.

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย  Strong word processing skills and data management experience with Raiser's Edge, Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power Point

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย  Must work flexible hours, including weekends and evenings.

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย  Must be prepared to travel to various program sites, and various communities.

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย  Possession of a valid Maryland motor vehicle operator's license, car insurance and willingness to use personal vehicle in the course of employment.

ย PHYSICAL DEMAND: Little physical effort on a day-to-day basis is required.ย  Ability to lift 25 pounds for the occasional need.

MENTAL DEMAND: Use of acquired knowledge and experience, critical thinking skills, organizational skills, judgment, and tact.ย  Must be able to function efficiently in a demanding environment despite distractions and interruptions.

ย WORK WITH OTHERS: Has contact with Board Members, volunteers, and elected officials.ย  Requires a cooperative and courteous attitude, as well as excellent phone and communication skills.
