Job description

Engineers and Geoscientists British Columbia is currently searching for a Junior Developer I to join our team in Burnaby! 

The Junior Developer I is responsible and accountable for:

  • assisting the Manager, Application Development, Associate Director, Information Systems Development, and Intermediate and Senior developers with all aspects of software design and coding;
  • owning key development tasks needed for the successful delivery of a project;
  • with assistance, creating, managing, and reporting own work packages associated with a project;
  • understanding directions given by manager and seniors to ensure that tasks align with project definition; and
  • assisting with the resolution of operational issues with developed solutions. 

With assistance and oversight, the Junior Developer I is also responsible for full stack development to incrementally build, test, and deploy solutions built in .NET Core and React, which utilize web, databases, APIs, web services, reporting, integration technologies, and tools.

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING 

  • Develops and codes UIs and reports needed to implement business solutions under oversight; performs unit and system tests, and may assist with integration and end user testing.
  • Implements reports against existing data models and specifications; will learn the meaning of the data being reported on.
  • Collaborates with others to provide effort-based estimates for enhancements. Creates (with assistance) work package plans that list tasks and their estimated effort to deliver project goals. Updates plans weekly with progress.
  • Works with requirements that have been previously defined; works with others to understand the proposed solution.
  • Will be expected to participate in brainstorming session related to data models and technical designs; will participate in defining testing requirements and coding reviews.
  • Participates in the support and problem resolution of existing systems; may be asked to assist in the deployment of services to end users.
  • Other duties as assigned by direct leader and, as appropriate, members of the divisional leadership team.

WHAT YOU BRING TO THE TABLE 

The successful applicant will possess the following: 

  • A 2+ year technical diploma in Computer Programming, or equivalent, is required.
  • A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science is preferred. 
  • 0-1 years of experience in a development role. 
  • Knowledge of C#, .NET, data modeling, SQL/RDBMS, technical development processes and patterns, reporting, and web development (React, HTML, CSS, JavaScript), which is actively being acquired through a combination of education, self-learning, and hands-on work experience.
  • Must have the ability and skills to work in teams, including the ability to learn, ask questions, and listen.
  • Experience in implementing web-based solutions using HTML, CSS and frontend JavaScript frameworks.
  • Experience defining, accessing, and working with data models.
  • Experience designing, coding, testing, and deploying technical solutions implemented in .NET.
