Position Summary

Thompson Engineering is seeking a motivated Engineering Associate to join our growing engineering team in one of our Gulf Coast offices. This position is ideal for early-career engineers who are eager to develop their technical expertise while working alongside experienced professionals on a diverse portfolio of infrastructure projects.
The Engineering Associate will support the planning, design, and delivery of projects across a variety of disciplines, including site civil, transportation, water resources, hydrology and hydraulics (H&H), coastal engineering, federal, municipal, land development projects, or other civil engineering disciplines. This role provides excellent opportunities for mentorship, professional growth, and progression toward professional licensure.
Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with engineering analysis, calculations, design, and preparation of construction plans and specifications.
  • Support project teams in the design and development of transportation, site development, water resources, coastal, federal, and municipal infrastructure projects.
  • Prepare engineering reports, cost estimates, quantity calculations, and technical documentation.
  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams including survey, environmental, geotechnical, structural, and construction personnel.
  • Participate in field visits, site investigations, and construction observations as needed.
  • Utilize engineering software to develop design documents and project deliverables.
  • Support project managers in maintaining project schedules, budgets, and client expectations.
  • Continue professional development while working toward Professional Engineer (PE) licensure.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
  • 0-4 years of engineering experience.
  • Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) certification preferred.
  • Experience or coursework in one or more of the following disciplines is preferred:
    • Site Civil
    • Transportation
    • Water Resources
    • Hydrology & Hydraulics (H&H)
    • Coastal Engineering
    • Federal Infrastructure
    • Municipal Engineering
    • Land Development
      • Experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D, OpenRoads Designer, MicroStation, or similar engineering software is preferred.
      • Strong communication, organizational, and analytical skills.
      • Ability to collaborate effectively within multidisciplinary project teams.
