Job description

DevOps Engineer II
Location: 99% Remote Position Type: Full-time
About Us
Mountville Inc. is a forward-thinking company committed to leveraging modern technology to drive innovation and efficiency. We are seeking a talented DevOps Engineer II to join our small, high-impact platform team. This role is central to how we build, ship, and operate the infrastructure behind our software.
Job Description
As a DevOps Engineer II, you will own and evolve the infrastructure that supports our software development lifecycle. Your focus will be on building and maintaining CI/CD (Continuous Integration / Continuous Delivery) pipelines, managing Azure cloud services, and keeping our containerized applications reliable, secure, and scalable. You'll work closely with a tight-knit team and have real ownership over the platforms you run.
Key Responsibilities
  • CI/CD Pipeline Development: Design, implement, and maintain CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions and Azure DevOps to automate build, test, and deployment.
  • Version Control: Manage source code repositories in Git and GitHub, championing sound branching strategies and code-review practices.
  • Cloud Infrastructure Management: Configure, deploy, and manage Azure cloud resources with an emphasis on availability, security, and scalability.
  • Kubernetes Operations: Deploy, operate, scale, and troubleshoot containerized applications on Kubernetes - including day-to-day operational support and incident recovery.
  • Infrastructure as Code: Define and manage infrastructure declaratively using Terraform, and apply GitOps practices to keep deployed state in sync with version control.
  • Monitoring and Logging: Build and maintain monitoring, logging, and alerting so we catch issues before our users do.
  • Security: Apply security best practices across the platform, including secrets management, access control, vulnerability assessment, and patching.
  • Automation: Spot manual toil in the development lifecycle and replace it with scripts and tooling that make the team faster.
  • Collaboration: Partner with development teams to understand their needs and give them the tools and support for a smooth path to production.

Qualifications
Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent hands-on experience).
Experience:
  • Proven experience in a DevOps role with a strong grasp of CI/CD practices.
  • Hands-on experience with Git and GitHub - repository management, branching strategies, and code reviews.
  • Strong, practical experience with GitHub Actions and Azure DevOps for pipeline creation and management.
  • Solid experience managing cloud services and infrastructure on Azure.
  • Genuine hands-on Kubernetes experience - deploying, operating, scaling, and troubleshooting real workloads (not just spinning up a cluster).
  • Experience defining infrastructure with Terraform.
  • Strong Linux administration skills, including shell scripting and system configuration.

Skills:
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot complex, cross-system issues.
  • Strong communication skills and a collaborative approach with cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to juggle multiple projects and prioritize effectively in a small-team environment.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with GitOps workflows for Kubernetes.
  • Familiarity with monitoring and observability tooling such as Datadog and Application Insights.
  • Knowledge of microservices architecture and containerization best practices.
  • Comfort working alongside modern AI-assisted development tooling.
  • Experience with other cloud platforms (AWS, GCP) is a plus.

What We Offer
  • Competitive salary and benefits package.
  • Opportunities for professional growth and development.
  • A collaborative and inclusive work environment.
  • The chance to work with modern technology and own meaningful infrastructure.
