About this position:
The purpose of this position is to serve as the Planning/Program Delivery/Design Engineer, reporting directly to the ADA of Engineering. It is located in District 58/Unit 170, reporting to District 58 Headquarters in Chase, LA. We are looking for an Engineer 6 that is self-motivated, able to perform tasks with minimal supervision and able to interpret unforeseen conditions as they may arise. As an Engineer 6, you will participate in appropriate DOTD structured training programs and attend all continuing education classes and conferences deemed necessary to facilitate the performance of required tasks.
While in official capacity, DOTD employees must comply with applicable Louisiana and Civil Service laws, rules, and regulations, as well as DOTD polices, procedures, manuals, and directives.
Minimum Qualifications
Possession of a current Louisiana license to practice professional engineering plus one of the following:
Two years of licensed engineering experience; or
Six years of professional engineering experience.
EXPERIENCE SUBSTITUTIONS:
A master's degree in engineering will substitute for one year of professional engineering experience.
A doctorate degree in engineering will substitute for two years of professional engineering experience.
Advanced degrees will substitute for a maximum of two years of professional engineering experience.
There is no substitution for licensed engineering experience.
NOTES:
Engineering experience gained while licensed as a professional engineer will be accepted as licensed engineering experience.
Engineering experience gained after earning an ABET-accredited degree and prior to earning a professional engineer's license (e.g., as an engineer intern applicant, engineer intern, or equivalent) will be accepted as professional level engineering experience.
Applications will be accepted from persons licensed to practice professional engineering in states other than Louisiana. If one of those applicants is selected for the position, he/she will be required to obtain a Louisiana license prior to appointment. The hiring agency will verify that all licensing requirements are met.
Louisiana Professional Engineer licenses are issued by the Louisiana Professional Engineering and Land Surveying Board. Licensing requirements may be viewed at www.lapels.com.

Job Duties and Other Information
Job Duties:
  • Supervises, schedules, reviews, and coordinates the work assignments for the design staff
  • Designs and coordinates large scope projects that have unique problems and solutions
  • Coordinates and plans large projects to develop programs in various funding categories such as Pavement Preservation, Contract Maintenance, etc.
  • District liaison with DOTD Headquarters for coordinating all design projects in the district
  • Oversees the assembling of proposals and contracts for all district-designed projects, along with the letting process
  • Supervises the District Survey Section

Position-Specific Details:Appointment Type: This position may be filled as probational, job appointment, detail to special duty, promotion, or voluntary demotion of a current DOTD employee.
Compensation: Special Entrance Rate (SER) for the Engineer 6 is $3,316.00 bi-weekly.
Permanent employees may receive a 10% Optional Base Pay Adjustment for Difficult to Fill.
