DOTD is seeking an Engineer Intern Applicant - Engineer Intern 2to support transportation projects and programs through projects and programsThis position supports the development, delivery, maintenance, or improvement of transportation infrastructure by applying engineering principles, conducting technical analysis, coordinating projects, and conducting compliance-related reviews.
No prior engineering experience is required - training is provided, with opportunities for career progression and advancement through the Engineering job series.
Positions are located Statewide, and report to Engineer 7/ Bridge Inspection Engineer.
While in an official capacity, DOTD employees must comply with applicable Louisiana and Civil Services laws, rules, and regulations, as well as DOTD policies, procedures, manuals, and directives.

Minimum Qualifications
Eligibility for a Louisiana Engineer Intern Certificate.
NOTE:
This is a temporary position to be utilized while the incumbent is securing a Louisiana Engineer Intern certificate. Permanent status shall be denied to incumbents occupying this position.
NOTE:
Louisiana Engineer Intern Certificates are issued by the Louisiana Professional Engineering and Land Surveying Board. Licensing requirements may be viewed at www.lapels.com.

Job Duties:
Depending on level and assignment, Engineer Intern Applicant-Engineer Intern 2 may:
  • Assists with bridge and structural design activities for transportation infrastructure projects.
  • Reviews or prepares plans, calculations, specifications, estimates, and structural details.
  • Performs or assists with bridge load ratings, structural evaluations, or bridge preservation activities.
  • Provides technical support related to bridge rehabilitation, replacement, preservation, or new capacity projects.
  • Coordinates with project managers, consultants, districts, construction staff, and other internal or external partners.

Position Specific Details:
Career Progression: This position is part of a Career Progression Group and may be filled as an Engineer Intern Applicant, Engineer Intern 1, or Engineer Intern 2.
Compensation:

Engineer Intern Applicant - $1,923.20 biweekly
Engineer Intern 1 - $2,115.20 biweekly
Engineer Intern 2 - $2,263.20 biweekly
Appointment Type: This position may be filled as a job appointment or probational appointment. A job appointment is a temporary appointment that may last up to 36 months. If filled as a job appointment, the position may be converted to a probational appointment in the future.

Any offer of employment will be contingent upon verification and confirmation that the applicant has received a qualifying degree. If selected, the applicant will be eligible to begin work the day after graduation.
