JOB OVERVIEWย 

The Facilities Maintenance/Engineering Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the hotel's maintenance and engineering functions, ensuring all systems operate efficiently and safely. This role supports a superior quality guest experience by maintaining the property's physical integrity, mechanical systems, and public areas in accordance with hotel standards. The Supervisor leads a team of maintenance professionals, manages work order execution, and assists in implementing preventative maintenance programs and safety compliance. ย 


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONSย 

Team Leadership & Supervisionย 

  • Supervise, train, and evaluate engineering and maintenance staff.ย 
  • Assist in holding daily shift meetings with crew to communicate work schedules and hotel issues.ย 
  • Assign and oversee daily work orders and ensure timely, quality completion.ย 
  • Promote a culture of safety, teamwork, and exceptional service.ย 
  • Maintain daily work schedules for each engineer to ensure adequate coverage.ย 
  • Cross train each engineer to ensure experience is shared within the group.ย 
  • Assist Chief Engineer in ensuring compliance with all applicable policies and procedures.ย 
  • Assist Chief Engineer with interviewing prospective candidates for engineer positions.ย 
  • Help create a working environment that is safe, challenging and positive.ย 

Guest Service & Communicationย 

  • Respond professionally to guest room maintenance issues.ย 
  • Ensure minimal disruption to guests during repair activities.ย 
  • Communicate regularly with hotel leadership regarding maintenance updates and projects.ย 

Preventive Maintenance & Facility Operationsย 

  • Schedule, implement, and monitor the preventive maintenance program for guest rooms, equipment, and public spaces.ย 
  • Ensure systems such as HVAC, plumbing, electrical, elevators, and fire safety are regularly inspected and maintained.ย 
  • Conduct routine property inspections and address deficiencies proactively.ย 
  • Support the Housekeeping Manager with the Deep Clean Projects.ย 

Repair and Work Order Managementย 

  • Diagnose and resolve mechanical, electrical, and plumbing issues promptly.ย 
  • Manage the hotel's maintenance request system and prioritize repairs based on guest impact and operational needs.ย 
  • Coordinate emergency repairs efficiently and effectively.ย 
  • Be on call as assigned.ย 

Compliance & Safetyย 

  • Make safety your number one priority for employees, guests, and vendors.ย ย 
  • Ensure adherence to OSHA, NFPA, ADA, and local regulatory codes.ย 
  • Maintain records for safety checks, life safety systems, chemical handling, and inspections.ย 
  • Enforce hotel safety standards and lead safety drills or emergency response as needed.ย 
  • Hold departmental safety meetings at least once per month and after a major safety incident.ย 
  • Support the Safety Committee through participation and follow up on reported safety issues.ย 

Vendor and Project Coordinationย 

  • Work with third-party contractors and service providers for specialized maintenance or renovation projects.ย 
  • Review bids and supervise contracted work for quality and timeliness.ย 

Sustainability & Energy Efficiencyย 

  • Monitor utility usage and recommend cost-saving and sustainability measures.ย 
  • Support the hotel's environmental initiatives, such as energy conservation and waste reduction.ย 

Budget & Inventory Managementย 

  • Assist with maintenance budget planning and expense tracking.ย 
  • Maintain adequate inventory of supplies, parts, and tools.ย 
  • Approve purchase orders and monitor vendor performance.ย 
  • Maintain labor and supplies cost within budgetย 

Requirements

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONSย 

  • Minimum of three years experience in building maintenance.ย ย 
  • Experience with diagnosing problems with general repairs, carpentry, HVAC, plumbing, painting, refrigeration, electrical, video, and commercial kitchen systems.ย 
  • Certification and/or working knowledge in one or more of the following: HVAC, refrigeration, or electrical.ย 
  • Capable of utilizing all tools and diagnostic procedures.ย ย 
  • Must possess very good interpersonal and communication skills; will be interfacing with a high percentage of guests as well as other staff members.ย 
  • Must be flexible to work all shifts, may be required to work overtime on occasion when the department is short of personal due to illness or vacation, etc.ย 
  • The ability to listen, empathize, be helpful in all situations and make sound decisions toward the resolution of a potential problem.ย  Must also possess strong human relations skills.ย 
  • Adhere to expectations as outlined in the Supervisory Code of Conductย ย
