Job description

WEG is hiring a Senior Engineering Manager � Panel Engineering (UL 508A).
The Senior Engineering Manager � Panel Engineering leads the engineering and design function responsible for UL 508A listed enclosed panels and engineered panel assemblies. This role owns technical design integrity, code and standards compliance, and the day-to-day leadership of a team of panel design engineers and designers/drafters. The Senior Engineering Manager ensures engineering output supports on-time, on-quality panel builds; maintains the integrity of the company's UL 508A file under its Follow-Up Service Program; and partners with Sales, OEM, Panel Shop Operations, and Quality to align engineering capacity and standards with commercial and production objectives.
Primary Responsibilities:
  • Lead the design and engineering function for UL 508A listed enclosed panels and engineered panel assemblies across all product lines.
  • Own compliance of panel designs with UL 508A requirements under the company's Follow-Up Service Program; serve as primary engineering contact for UL field inspections and file maintenance.
  • Review and approve panel drawings, bills of material, wiring diagrams, and control schematics for compliance with UL 508A, NEC/NFPA 70, NEMA, and applicable IEC standards.
  • Recruit, hire, train, and develop panel design engineers and designers/drafters; build a strong technical leadership and succession pipeline within the team.
  • Define competency requirements and lead technical training programs to grow engineering and design capability across the team.
  • Oversee workload balancing, project assignment, and resource allocation for panel engineering scope based on skill set and project requirements.
  • Partner with Sales, OEM, and Channel teams on engineering support for quoting non-standard, engineered-to-order, and custom panel designs.
  • Serve as the escalation point for complex technical and design issues on panel builds, including SCCR, coordination studies, and layout constraints.
  • Own engineering change management, drawing revision control, and documentation standards within the PLM/ERP system.
  • Coordinate closely with Panel Shop Production/Manufacturing on constructability, cost reduction, and lead-time improvement for released designs.
  • Establish KPIs and targets for engineering throughput, drawing quality, first-pass build accuracy, and on-time design release.
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives to reduce engineering cycle time, rework, and design-related field issues.
  • Coordinate root-cause analysis and corrective action for design-related quality escalations, in partnership with Quality and Manufacturing.
  • Represent Engineering in customer technical reviews, project kickoffs, and internal business planning sessions.
  • Act as the senior liaison between Panel Engineering, Panel Shop Operations, Sales/OEM, Quality, and Product Management.
  • Support new product introductions, standard panel platforms, and design library/standard work development.
  • Promote a culture of safety, accountability, and high performance across the engineering team.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, safety standards, and applicable industry regulations.
  • Perform other duties and tasks as assigned.
Education:
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related engineering discipline; an equivalent combination of education and directly relevant experience will be considered.
Knowledge/Training:
  • Working knowledge of UL 508A panel construction requirements, including short-circuit current rating (SCCR), enclosure ratings, and labeling/listing requirements under a Follow-Up Service Program.
  • Familiarity with NEC/NFPA 70, NEMA, and applicable IEC standards as they apply to industrial control panels.
  • Proficiency with electrical design/CAD tools (e.g., AutoCAD Electrical, EPLAN, or similar) and PLM/ERP documentation systems.
  • Solid understanding of components integrated into panel builds, including PLCs, VFDs, low-voltage soft starts, and industrial control devices.
  • Knowledge of engineering change control, drawing revision management, and design-for-manufacturability principles.
  • Knowledge of project management and continuous improvement methodologies such as Lean or Six Sigma.
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and time management.
  • Demonstrated initiative, analytical thinking, and problem-solving ability.
  • Technical leadership and coaching/mentoring capabilities.
  • Strong customer focus and communication skills.
Experience:
  • 10+ years of experience in electrical/panel design engineering, including direct experience with UL 508A listed panel construction.
  • 5+ years in a supervisory or engineering leadership role managing engineers and/or designers.
