Summary

The Senior Manager, Engineering leads multiple engineering Scrum teams through direct management of Team Leads and is responsible for delivering highquality, scalable software solutions aligned with business and strategic objectives. This role bridges handson execution and strategic leadership, providing technical oversight, people leadership, and operational excellence while partnering closely with Product Management, Architecture, and Client Services. The Senior Manager reports into an Engineering Director and acts as a key multiplier for engineering effectiveness, quality, and delivery predictability.

Key Responsibilities

Engineering Delivery & Execution

  • Oversee planning, execution, and delivery across multiple Scrum teams, ensuring commitments are met with high quality and predictable outcomes.
  • Partner with Product Management to translate business and market needs into executable plans and prioritized backlogs.
  • Monitor progress across initiatives and work packages; proactively identify risks, dependencies, and mitigation strategies.
  • Ensure effective Agile practices are followed consistently, while evolving processes to improve throughput, quality, and team health.

People & Organizational Leadership

  • Manage and mentor multiple Engineering Team Leads, including performance management, engagement, career development, and succession planning.
  • Foster a strong engineering culture emphasizing accountability, continuous improvement, collaboration, and technical excellence.
  • Assist with recruiting, hiring, onboarding, and retaining top engineering talent in partnership with Engineering Directors and HR.
  • Act as an escalation point for complex people, process, and delivery challenges across teams.

Technical & Architectural Oversight

  • Provide technical leadership and guidance across teams, ensuring designs are scalable, maintainable, and aligned with architectural standards.
  • Review and guide system design, major code changes, and integration strategies with a strong focus on simplicity, performance, and reliability.
  • Advise Team Leads and senior engineers on complex technical problems and crossteam design decisions.
  • Stay current with emerging technologies and assess their applicability to business and platform needs.

Quality & Operational Excellence

  • Ensure strong engineering discipline including design reviews, code reviews, testing strategies, and release readiness.
  • Identify opportunities to improve development efficiency, automation, tooling, and software quality across teams.
  • Review testing strategies and plans to ensure high standards of quality, resiliency, and usability.
  • Partner with Client Services to support production issues, customer escalations, and rootcause analysis.

CrossFunctional Collaboration

  • Coordinate with peer Senior Managers, Directors, Architecture, QA, and other R&D stakeholders to ensure seamless integration across product areas.
  • Support sales and client engagement activities, including participation in POCs and strategic customer discussions as needed.
  • Communicate status, risks, and outcomes clearly and succinctly to senior engineering and executive leadership.

Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor's degree (or foreign equivalent) in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or a related technical field required.
  • Master's degree strongly preferred.

Experience

  • 15+ years of progressively responsible experience in software engineering roles.
  • 3+ years of experience leading engineering teams, including management of managers or team leads.
  • Strong experience delivering largescale, highperformance commercial software systems.
  • Strong experience designing and implementing cloud-native event-driven systems.
  • Proficiency with AI tools in development and building AI enabled solutions preferred.
  • Significant experience working in an Agile/Scrum development environment.
  • Experience in financial services domains such as Portfolio Management, Trading, Analytics strongly preferred

Technical & Leadership Skills

  • Strong understanding of objectoriented design, distributed systems, relational databases, and modern software development practices.
  • Proven ability to provide technical direction while balancing tactical delivery and strategic goals.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage solution complexity and drive simple, elegant designs.
  • Demonstrated cross-organization collaboration skills and partnerships.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence and align stakeholders at multiple levels.
  • Strong organizational, prioritization, and timemanagement skills.

Salary Range:

$120,000 - $217,500 Annual

The range quoted above applies to the role in the primary location specified. If the candidate would ultimately work outside of the primary location above, the applicable range could differ.
